A joyous gathering this afternoon!!!! Our Malaysian friends arrived with gifts and food! As part of our Sunday supperclub- the Malaysian group had hosted an event at our restaurant. Sabah English Aspiration Society was founded by Dr Zainab (the lady in the red hijab) She came from a very poor village family in Sabah & at the age of 13 could not speak English. Her aunty who was a cleaner at the main hospital in Kota Kinabalu took her in and schooled her and she went on to excel in her studies. She went on to win a scholarship to Dublin to study medicine and is now a Neonatologist at Kings College London. In 2017 she started this charity to empower children in her local village to learn English and excel. Every summer she does an English camp. She had hoped to raise £2000 at the supperclub- one person eating at the restaurant donated £5000 and the total raised was almost 9K! The power of the female collective 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Such an honor to meet this woman, Asma Khan, an inspirational woman doing an exceptional work at the restaurant @darjeelingldn (Darjeeling Express) along with her staff.
She advocates for social change and does a incredible job volunteering, but when you finally have her in front of you (she tries to speak to all her customers) all you feel is the warmth of her eyes. I felt so humble to get a chance to speak to you @asmakhanlondon and I thank you for your time, food and blessings.
