  • There’s a lot of zhuzhing happening in the wine industry, from a li’l Mega Purple here for that REALLY RED color and faux “roundness” and “depth” very few regions can tease out of their terroir at $9 a bottle, to some greenwashin’ there. (Shout: SUSTAINABILITY! Whisper: also … Roundup). 🥂🥂🥂🥂
Brooks Winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley is an exception. Since 1998, Brooks has been working 20 acres of high-altitude terroir that gets battered by ocean wind blowing through the Van Duzer Corridor. All of the land has been farmed biodynamically since 2002, and they work to reintroduce native plants in their insectary and medicinal herb gardens, utilize compost teas in lieu of chemical spray and work with a network of local growers who share their high eco standards. 🥂🥂🥂🥂
Their goal is to allow their carefully grown fruit to express the terroir they’re grown in. I am sipping #samples from Brooks this week, and I’m entranced by the 2017 Ara Riesling. On the nose, you surf waves of guava, honeysuckle, Meyer lemon, and on the palate you get white grapefruit, lime zest, lush pears, salty lemons. It finishes dry. 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂
In addition to making fabulous vino, they give back. 1% of all gross revenues go to environmental powerhouse 1% For the Planet, they’re a certified B Corp and Demeter Certified Biodynamic. Drink more, give back more. Win-win-wine. 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥂

Il nebbiolo è il re, mentre la barbera è la regina

Spesso è volentieri nell'immaginario comune, erroneamente, si ritiene un poco meno pregiata la barbera rispetto al nebbiolo

A @tenuta_montemagno però si è deciso di puntare forte su questa varietà e con la voglia di produrre una grandissima barbera

Io personalmente, per quanto possa contare il mio giudizio, ritengo che la strada sia stata imboccata in maniera magistrale

Il risultato di un lavoro maniacale e complesso, è una barbera armonica, molto pulita al naso e in bocca, con un tannino ben marcato ma molto setoso
