Penny is one pretty kitty, and basking in her beauty is a rare privilege. #SnowLeopards are rarely seen in the wild, as they live high in the mountains of Central Asia. ❄️🐆Although the cats freely cross the international boundaries of 12 countries, their secretive behavior and remote habitat among the highest mountains in the world add to their mystery. Because of their shy behavior and uncanny, almost mystical ability to disappear among the rocks, snow leopards have entered the folklore of local peoples in many countries and have been described as shape-changing mountain spirits. 🗻 #SnoLeopardLikeSnowLeopards#FelineFacts#caturday#SanDiegoZoo 📷: Mike Wilson

When we decided to come to San Diego, we talked about going to Disneyland. It’s only 1.5 hours away and it’s no secret how much I LOVVVVE Disney. But then I read about something else that was about the same cost as Disneyland. A private two-hour tour at the San Diego Zoo with a very special up close viewing of the pandas. The choice was easy. Disney will be here forever, but these endangered species might not be. Although after seeing them today I’m pretty sure this family will be fighting to keep them around forever. #pandas#amurleopards#takins#giraffes#endangeredspecies#beautiful#sandiegozoo

The pandas are leaving @sandiegozoo in April - returning to China as part of the loan agreement. Bummer ‘cuz they’re pretty cool. But still here for a couple of weeks if you want to say goodbye. 😢🐼 #panda#visitsd
We spent pretty much the whole day at the San Diego Zoo. We actually got an exclusive VIP private tour behind the scenes, courtesy an amazing zookeeper and Ben Pollack (band director)'s mom, who worked there for years as a docent. We fed giraffes, got spiked by them a bit, pet an Australian blue tongue skink, held elephant teeth, and learned how many raisins it takes to satisfy an elephant (about as much as it takes to satisfy the average toddler. A handful or so and they're happy) and got a look at the new panda exhibit. It was brilliant.
We then had another few hours to wander the zoo on our own. We saw loads of awesome animals, most of which did not come out on my phone's camera. We stupidly got in line for more pandas (earlier we got to skip the line) and spent 45 minutes trapped in a slow moving horde. Finally saw the back of a pandas head and got out just in time to meet the group again.
We went to dinner at Fuddrucker's, where mom and I split our burgers so we could each do half elk and half bison. They were pretty good. A quick swim in the hotel pool, and now we're packing up to head out tomorrow. It's been fun!
Mom and David Day Date! Got to spend the whole day at the Zoo with my littlest Monkey. He loved that he got to be in charge of where we were going. Also, while at the Zoo, news broke that the Pandas will being going back to China next month and that the exhibit will no longer be at the San Diego Zoo. It was a treat to see them one last time. David got the best photo of one of them! We had a blast!!! #SanDiegoZoo#pandas4ever#bestdayever#daydate
