  • Sunday tunes 🎶
I remember sitting on my floor with my stereo on my bed, stopping and starting the blank cassette I recorded Like a Prayer on, and writing down every word so I could learn it. Pretty sure I still have that mixtape somewhere.

  • The Thing (1982)
MAN IS THE WARMEST PLACE TO HIDE.⁣
Directed by John Carpenter⁣
⁣
Review (4.5/5 Stars)⁣
⁣
Next to Alien, this is one of the films of the most classic 80s horror creature films, and my favorite from that period. This is from the concept alone, being isolated in one of the coldest places in the world. Confined in a facility with a small group of people would be bad enough, but when a creature as horrifying as the one in this film arrives, I would be scared out of my mind. ⁣
⁣
In terms of the story, it’s absolutely great. Filled with mystery, and when it starts to unravel in the corridors the horror truly begins. Kurt Russell shows this, and his acting is on a completely different level of immersion compared to the rest of the cast (though great and believable as well). ⁣
⁣
Finally, the practical effects in this one were amazing for its time, and even holds up today. The gore, and limbs of the creature and everything in between is so realistic that it never feels like something like a cheesy horror slasher. ESPECIALLY AT THE END IN THAT CAVE.⁣
⁣
Overall, I absolutely loved this film of pure horror and paranoia. With the practical effects, it really does show how much can be accomplished in telling a terrifying story without CGI. Making it a horrifying timeless masterpiece, the story of The Thing is masterfully told visually and narratively in the greatest way possible while holding up today.

  • Anyone else have this ladybird buggy in the 80's? I did and loved it. My parents managed to track one down secondhand and now my daughter is in love with it - today it has her baba in it, other times it's used for transporting cars, blocks, bags, eggboxes, and other random bits that take her fancy.

  • This Nintendo Power commercial from 1990 captures the manic wackiness of the era perfectly. It’s so late-80s/early-90s that it hurts.

  • Eddie Murphy getting make up touched up on the set of ‘The Nutty Professor’, 1996
.
It took three hours to apply the makeup each day for the entire 70-day shoot
.
Eddie played a total of 7 characters in the film, Can you name all of them?
