•
Make a difference, my human friends. Plant a tree, wear a gum leaf or change your profile pic to a koala on Wild Koala Day May 3. You can do great things when you all work together. Just look at how you saved the whales. •

Give my kids a future. Please.

  • Like mother, like daughter: KiKi with our daughter LuLu. •
•
Mother and daughter koalas often retain a long term bond and live near each other. Lulu is now independent, but still living in her mum's home range. There are status benefits to female Koalas who inherit their mother's home range - it's like getting a leg up in life. •
•
This is one of many reasons why it's critical to save Koalas in the wild. Captivity upsets delicate social behaviours. •

  • It's Wild Koala Day on May 3!!! Wild Koala Day is a day to celebrate our koalas living in the wild, to protect their forests, and plant new forests to replace what has been taken by land clearing and over-development. •
•
•
Echidna Walkabout started Wild Koala Day 4 years ago, with support of koala conservation groups all around Australia. It's now grown into a program of regular tree planting, education and fundraising events. •
•
•
Show your support on May 3 by posting a pic of a koala in the wild (no koala-holding or cuddling pics please). If you don't have one, the Wild Koala Day FB and web page has some for free download. Wildkoaladay.com.au

  • Today is up there in my top safari experiences of all time... 60 Orca hunting a blue whale. Saw the whole thing from start to finish. Although difficult to watch it was nature doing what it does. 3rd time ever recorded here, 1st time with clients on the boat. Mind blown. Warning - does contain some graphic content. #orca #bluewhale #seeaustralia #australia #australianwildlifejourneys

  • Pink (Major Mitchell) Cockatoo | Lophochroa leadbeateri | Mungo National Park, Outback NSW Australia.
•
•
Mungo is the best place to see these magnificent cockatoos. At this time of year they congregate into large flocks, adults and juveniles, with lots of interaction. •
•
They are also one of our most fragile species in southern Australia. They need old callitris (native cypress) for breeding, and these old trees are dying. Normally younger trees would replace them, but rabbits and farm animals have eaten the baby trees for over 100 years, so there's no middle aged trees. Young trees are now being protected, but will take another 50-100 years to be useful to the cockies. •

  • Occasionally, if you're really lucky and quiet, a wild Echidna will approach you! It happens more frequently on Raymond Island in East Gippsland, but it can happen anywhere in Australia. •
•
To make this likely to happen to you, follow these steps:
1. Find a wild Echidna
2. Stop 20 metres away and sit down.
3. Wait patiently and do not move or talk. Expect to wait 10 minutes or more.
•
•
You might have to try a few times - some echidnas are very nervous of people, and if other people are around it probably won't work. •

  • Hello from #hobart #tasmania The first day was a blur as we hit the ground running but it was a mighty soft landing at @maylandslodge which opened 7 months ago. A high-quality elegant hotel with plenty of #sustainable touches. One of my favorite parts of this hotel’s story is that the historic home’s owner’s father was a convict who served his time and then proceeded to built a farming empire! #seeaustralia #australianwildlifejourneys

  • Gippsland Water Dragon | Intellagama lesueurii howittii | East Gippsland Australia •
•
Gippsland Water Dragons grow larger than the eastern subspecies of Water Dragon in NSW & Qld: up to 90cm long. As a result, a lot of East Gippsland locals chuckle and call them Snowy River Crocs! •
•
These photogenic lizards can be seen on the 4 day Wildlife Journey, particularly in the warmer months October to March. •

Besides the largest fish in the sea of course, we might even see a tiny little baby leopard shark 🥰 ... 📷: @chiarabussini
