  • Leo got his own electric chair on Tuesday. He’s been having lessons at school for a few months. He needs to have an outside assessment before he’s allowed to use it outside so the speed has been limited as well. We are at the hospital today for four hour blood pressure monitoring for both boys. So I thought I would take him in the chair so he can get some practice in going up and down the corridors. It’s absolutely amazing! I’m soo happy right now, he is able to go and play where ever he wants. He keeps going over to the nurses to get them to play with him. He’s never had freedom like this before and it’s just amazing! We went to the canteen and he went over to the crisps and helped himself to some! 🥰🥰 but shhhhh we weren’t meant to go outside in it 😜🤫 #cerebralpalsy #wheelchair #electricwheelchair #freedom #independent #independece #disabilityawareness #disabilityblogger #watchyourtoes #birminghamchildrenshospital

  • The date is fast approaching, 2020 is only weeks away. I e-mailed my Senator to make an in person appointment and speak on how AB5 will affect us Language providers if we are not exempt.
Join me! Make noise. Let's keep our autonomy!

Even if this doesn't affect you. Help us fight for our independence!

  • So, one thing I didn’t share about “our” trip to Georgia last week is that it was really MY trip to Georgia! Well, I had Kip for a companion but not my husband. The pictures of Kip and me were all taken with a tripod and timer!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I suffer from (or enjoy) a much greater degree of wanderlust than my husband does, and he also has more work commitments than I do, so he encouraged me to try solo travel. I literally haven’t done anything without this man for 30 years, so at first the thought terrified me. Then I was intrigued and challenged - could I not only do it but enjoy it? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I planned my trip entirely within my comfort zone for how far I wanted to drive in a day, where I wanted to stay and what I wanted to do. I drove over 2000 miles by myself, which at first was a bit anxiety-inducing but then became comfortable and familiar. I stayed at KOA’s and state parks because I knew I would feel safe there and the campgrounds would be busy and full of people. I got myself a tent but also had plans to sleep in my car with the doors locked if I didn’t feel safe. ⁣
⁣⁣
Well, after I set up camp for the first time and saw how cute and comfortable my tent was, I loved sleeping in it all week! I planned hikes within the parks, carried a safety whistle and bear spray on me at all times, and always had Kip the dog with me, and I never felt unsafe.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I am usually quite introverted, but being alone forced me to talk to people more and I rather enjoyed it! The park staff were all helpful and friendly, I met another solo female traveler, and most of my fellow campers this time of year were retired couples. It was really good for my self-confidence and feeling of independence and I’m glad I challenged myself in this way. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for my husband and the times that we do share adventures together. But now I know I can have adventures by myself. I can be safe and smart and still have a great time. I would have never known it without trying, and I’m so happy I did. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I want to thank all my IG friends for following along on my trip and for being so encouraging and inspirational. It was so fun to share with you!⁣⁣
