Can be incredibly hard to carve out at the best of times - but I鈥檝e never found it more challenging than when I first became a mum (and this is still true today!)
The list of things to do for my daughter, my work, my family, my home - the life admin, the diary management, the trying to have a social life. It all just takes up so much of the waking day.
I found when I had C that I really felt like the last person in my own life - anyone else feel that? I couldn鈥檛 just leave the house to meet friends in the evening (still true) and I felt so tired and lacking in energy that it was hard to want to do any extra activities out of the family unit (and I still feel like that a lot of the time!).

Gradually over time as sleep got easier, we found some people we trusted to care for our daughter I found more TIME FOR ME.
This is what I focused on:
1. Getting my yoga class in. For this I have to schedule in advance, but it鈥檚 immovable twice a week. This took a long time to get going, I used to just try to go out for a walk.
2. Get my evenings with friends firm in the diary - this is not very often, but again, it鈥檚 a priority.
3. Try to pass over the evening routine - I don鈥檛 do bath and bedtime on the days i鈥檓 more with C - and I don鈥檛 feel guilty, she can do it with her daddy and I can get out for a walk and wind-down (or more likely just clean up the carnage of the day and prep dinner!)
4. Share those chores like the cooking and cleaning - my husband never expects it done, it鈥檚 my issue that I want everything clean and tidy, which I sometimes have to let go. Doing it together halves the time.
5. Take 30 minutes where you can do something simple and meaningful that鈥檚 not on the phone eg read, bath, stretch - sort out your sock drawer - whatever makes you feel calm and centered.
6. Never compare, it鈥檚 the thief of joy. No-one has it together, and clearing negative thoughts about others will leave so much space in your brain for your own ME-TIME.

We all need to create our own space to allow our brain to relax and open up, think about other things than our baby and the negatives of the day.

  • **Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil** You know how the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding squirts Windex as a cure for every skin ailment? That鈥檚 me with tea tree oil. I mostly use it for errant zits (it doesn鈥檛 dry out  my skin like Clearasil did) but I also put it on unknown bug bites or rashes- basically every skin ailment except open wounds. I鈥檝e also put a couple drops in a bath along with lavender & mixed it with other essential oils to make an insect repellent. A little goes a long way- Im still finishing this bottle that I bought in 2017!
