  • *TURMERIC LATTE*

Golden milk (also known as turmeric latte) is a wonderfully healing remedy traditionally taken in India and Pakistan to soothe aches and pains, boost health and vitality and repair the body from injury and trauma. Full of the superfood turmeric, it’s my favourite natural tonic when I’m feeling under the weather and I swear by it for recovering from surgery and to generally heal the body when I’m not feeling my best. I’ve seen it’s effects first hand and it’s amazing! Lately I’ve been sprucing up this latte with some ground cardamom and fennel seeds, both of which are delicious and add another dimension to this little magic elixir. Feel free to experiment with your favourite flavours and make it your own! Check out my recipe below and in my highlights. Enjoy 🤗
🍃
You will need:
1 mug of semi skimmed or full fat milk
Up to 1 tspn turmeric
Pinch of black pepper
Honey or sugar taste
Optional - 1 green cardamom pod or 1/2 tspn ground cardamom
Optional - pinch of fennel seeds
🍃
1. On medium heat warm up the milk and add turmeric and black pepper (start off with less turmeric until you build up a tolerance for the taste. Note black pepper is essential to absorb the nutrients from the turmeric, you only need a pinch).
2. Add cardamom and fennel seeds if using, bring milk to a boil and simmer for a few mins to allow the turmeric to cook and the flavours to infuse.
3. Remove from heat and sweeten to to taste with honey. Serve warm.

  • Kitchari✨
.
High protein meal perfect for a vegan pregnancy! Or if you’re not pregnant and a fan of curry, you’ll love kitchari! It’s an Ayurvedic meal famous for cleansing the body. It’s easily digested and is said to balance all 3 doshas. A lot of these words may be new to you... just know that this meal is incredibly nourishing!
At one appointment with my midwife, she stressed that I needed more protein. She said the amount of protein you should eat right now equals about 3 eggs per meal... woah, and no thank you! I made enough kitchari for days and by my next appointment she said I was getting plenty protein! I highly recommend adding in the dandelion greens, they are an incredible bitter that is good for your liver and high in iron. Eat more dandelion!!!!!!
.
RECIPE
1 cup mung beans (soaked overnight)
1 cup basmati rice (soaked overnight)
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1/4 cup minced ginger
2 tablespoons coconut oil
2 cups coconut milk
4 cups water
2 teaspoons sea salt
1-2 cups veggies of choice (I love broccoli and carrot)
2 cups dandelion greens or spinach
Drain and rinse the mung beans and rice, set aside. In a large pot over medium heat add the oil and the seeds (mustard, cumin, fennel) cook for a few minutes until the pop. Add the other spices (turmeric, coriander and ginger) and a few tablespoons of water, stir well and cook for another minute.
Add coconut milk, water, salt, mung beans and rice, cook over low heat with the lid on for 20 minutes. Add veggies and cook for another 15 minutes. Finally turn off the heat and add the greens, stir them in and let them wilt.
I topped my bowl of kitchari with extra greens, cashew yogurt and turmeric garbanzo beans.
ENJOY 😊

  • In the Southern Japanese islands, ancient foragers discovered a very special plant for food and medicine. After being cut or trimmed, a brand new leaf appeared in one day! Much in the same way the plant regenerates its leaves, Ashitaba is said to prolong life and regenerate the human body. High in a substance called chalcone, the leaves, stem, and golden sap are reported to hold anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties. Ashitaba tea, noodles, fruit drinks, candies and even ice cream are widely available in Japan and the Philippines. “Tomorrow’s leaf,” as it is colloquially known, is an Angelica related to celery and parsley.
Interested in eternal life? Visit the nursery every Saturday + Sunday through the end of October, 10 AM - 5 PM. Directions and details at the link in bio.

  • ORANGES are high in citric acid - which acts as a skin exfoliation and can help dry out acne. We all hear oranges are high in vitamin C, but not many know what this vitamin does. 🍊
Vitamin C is an acid that is necessary for the development, growth and repair of all bodily tissues. Some of its involvements include collagen formation (the body’s most abundant protein), iron absorption, wound healing, and cartilage/bone/teeth maintenance.
🍊
You can pop a hair, skin, nails pill, or you can add orange to your diet. The peel has a higher concentration of vitamin C compared to its meat. You can incorporate the rind of an orange into your skincare regime by rubbing it into your face and body like a wipe.

  • Variety is a key to macrobiotic cooking. Incorporating the following cooking techniques in your day-to-day macrobiotic cooking may create a healthy variety:
    1. The selection of foods within the following categories: grains, soups, vegetables, beans, sea vegetables, condiments, pickles and beverages.
    2. Many methods of cooking: boiling, steaming, sautéing, frying, pressure cooking, etc.
    3. Various styles of cutting vegetables.
    4. The amount of water used.
    5. The amount of seasoning and condiments used.
    6. The kind of seasoning and condiments used.
    7. The length of cooking time.
    8. The use of a higher or lower flame when cooking food,
    9. The combination of foods and dishes.
    10. The seasonal cooking adjustments.
    11. Adjustments in cooking for the type of daily activity.
    12. Adjustments in cooking for age and sex.
The way of eating is as important as the food itself. Therefore, please try to keep meals peaceful and relaxed. Try to eat regularly two or three times a day.

Each dish has particular flavors and purposes, so it is better not to mix them and stir them all together on your plate.

  • The Hibiscus of Many Benefits. "A Plant a Day"- Roselle, Jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa)- A native of Africa, Roselle is a Hibiscus species which produces several useful products traded internationally. After flowering, a fleshy calyx is produced which enlarges as the fruit matures, and is harvested and used for food coloring, making syrups, and beverages (usually just the dried sepals). The leaves are also consumed in several cuisines as a leafy vegetable, with a flavor like a spicy or sour spinach. The seed is also roasted and then powdered and used in soups and sauces. The stem is used in the production of bast fibers, which may be used to make flexible textiles or cordage, such as jute or burlap.
The herbal tea made from Roselle has a flavor that is tart and slightly sweet (but usually also sweetened), and has preliminary evidence for the benefit of high blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight loss. The bitter roots of Roselle are also used in traditional medicine as a digestive or stomach tonic. Through scientific investigation, we also know that Roselle acts as a good antioxidant, being rich in polyphenols, and is used in inflammatory diseases, we well as in hypertension, cancer and lipid metabolism. © Ethnopharm #APlantADay #UsefulPlants #MedicinalPlants #hibiscus #medicinaltea #herbaltea #antioxidant #roselle #jamaica #hypertension #medicinalfood #digestive

  • Macrobiotic cooking is unique. Natural and simple ingredients are best for producing delicious meals which are nutritious, tasty and attractive. The cook has the ability to change the quality of the food. Stronger cooking, the use of greater pressure, salt, heat and time, all make the energy of the food more concentrated. Lighter cooking, the use of less pressure, salt, heat and time produce lighter energy. A good cook manages these energies according to the needs of those he or she cooks for and thereby creates health by varying the cooking styles.

  • #茶树菇 Cha Shu Mushroom (Agrocybe aegerita) is a food-as-medicine ingredient in TCM. It is a little warming-neutral, benefits the spleen system. I pair them with fresh Chinese yam (Shan Yao #山药), fresh Lily bulb, goji Berry, dried lotus seeds to make a nourishing broth. .
Method: washing all ingredients, peel mountain yam and cut into small slices or pieces, also separate the Lily bulb. Then add any protein/bone you prefer, cover with water or stock and bring to boil. After it’s boiling, lower heat and stew for an hour. Season with sea salt, miso, or soy sauce. All herbs used in this broth can be eaten!

  • Part I: I started posting this food stuff entirely for myself, not vanity or share., it was all because I have an on and off love and hate relationship with food since a teen. It is not I hate food as such, although I am fussy, but it is mainly because of my emotions, there were days I cannot bring my to eat, I have to force myself to drink, even I was raging in starvation. When I do eat, I eat, I can eat just as much as any grown man, but these days are rarely consistent. I need to get myself into a healthy eating routine if I don’t do that no amount of best therapy in the world even if I receive daily treatment would help me in the long term. And because of this issue of mine, I take a cocktail of supplements; they were all Kinesilogically tested on me, absolutely essential. The thing is, I know it too, why, because I feel almost immediately after I have taken these supplements. There can be a whole spectrum of B vitamins, but not many will be the “priority” for your body, and that’s why they were tested on me.
I was rather lazy on one occasion; I ordered a different sort of spirulina (plant protein) from a company I was placing an order with not the one I was recommended on...for months, I was feeling all over the place. It was later, in the study treatment, I realised the one I ordered was doing nothing for me and that it set my health back to few months ago. This is the precision of Kinesiology! So all this food I post, it is really a commitment to myself to start a healthy eating routine and fulfil my special dietary needs and because I am fussy. If I started on a public forum, I’m responsible to carry on, irrespective of what the outcome is, it was a challenge that I took on, a deep-water type of challenge, but I wasn’t giving myself a plan B. I am having that healthy eating routine with this new special dietary needs to meet, and when I reach there, I will be able to reduce all the supplements I was taking. Essentially, they were tools to build up my physical health so that I can deal with the rest of emotional challenges #eatingdisorder #eatingdisorderrecovery #overcomeeatingdisorders #food #foodismedicine #medicinalfood #mentalhealthawareness

  • It’s mini cabbage season! Brussels sprouts are here!
—
Their name does in fact come from the city of Brussels, Belgium, where they were a very common crop in the 16th century. Today we find them all over the world. Did you know they grow on tall stalks that can be up to four feet tall?
—
Brussels sprouts are a nutritional powerhouse, with several anti-cancer compounds, and high levels of vitamin C and K (which is important for blood health). Cruciferous veggies like Brussels sprouts can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke. So bring on the Brussels!
—
There’s a good chance you didn’t like Brussels sprouts as a kid, since they have sulfur-containing compounds that can give them a bitter taste when not cooked properly. But when properly cooked and seasoned, they are deliciously nutty and sweet!
—
It’s easy to cook Brussels sprouts so they are flavorful and delicious! Roasting them at a high temperature until until browned, then drizzling on some balsamic vinegar is a great option. You can also bake the individual leaves to make “chips.” They can even be shaved into salads!
—
Tell us below-do you like Brussels sprouts? If not, give them another try!

There’s a good chance you didn’t like Brussels sprouts as a kid, since they have sulfur-containing compounds that can give them a bitter taste when not cooked properly. But when properly cooked and seasoned, they are deliciously nutty and sweet!

It’s easy to cook Brussels sprouts so they are flavorful and delicious! Roasting them at a high temperature until until browned, then drizzling on some balsamic vinegar is a great option. You can also bake the individual leaves to make “chips.” They can even be shaved into salads!

Tell us below-do you like Brussels sprouts? If not, give them another try!

  • CÁNCER DE MAMA
.
