  • This week certainly ended better than it started and some cool shit happened today. Ended up making 2/2 snatches with 130kg/286lbs, and 4/5 with 135kg/297lbs. That's 5 reps at 130 and over and I've never ever been that consistent in a single workout before. Also, I power cleaned 150kg/330lbs which I guess is some kind of a PR because that's the most I've ever tried to do, and was actually able to squat today with zero pain for the first time in months (205kg/451lbs for a triple). @symmetricalbodies is a damn wizard and if anyone in the Tampa area needs work done go see him. After one visit yesterday, I felt better today than I had in months. Also: snatching in knee wraps is awkward as hell, but the remaining swelling in my knee from Monday left me with no choice but to wear them today. Keep showing up.   • #flashbackfriday to a year ago today and what is probably the fastest 130kg/286lb clean I've ever done, and that time later in the workout that @w8liftah barked at me in an angry foreign language so that I wouldn't let go of a 162kg/357lb jerk I lazily pushed forward. It's always good to see progress in your training and I'm glad these videos came up on my timehop today. 162 was a good day a year ago. Today it's a routine lift. I've also seen some differences in my technique in these videos that I like, versus some recent things I've seen in my lifting that I don't quite like, that I'm going to revisit this week. Trust the process. Keep showing up. Get better. Miss you guys at @fdu_training_hall as well.   • Right knee got all swollen and aggravated during Monday's workout, haven't been able to turn my head all the way to the left all week, my joints and my body ache, so I showed up today and didn't know what to expect. Power snatches 115kg/253lbs, 120kg/264lbs, clean and jerks 150kg/330lbs, 160kg/352lbs, and a miss at 167kg/367lbs, cautious back squats 190kg/418lbs. Pretty obvious I was guarding my knee today but that's not the point. Keep showing up. Time to take some care of my old ass body and show up again tomorrow. All in all today worked out just fine aside from one missed jerk and having to keep my squats a little lighter. I'll take it.   • Never take for granted what your body allows you to do. Sad will be the day when I can no longer show up at the gym, put on my lifting shoes, grab my barbell, and forget about the world for a few hours while I work through the program. I hope that day doesn't come for a very, very long time. I love this sport, I love the process of getting better at it, and as much as I bitch about how my body feels, I love testing the limits of this body I've been blessed with. Stay strong, friends.   • Don't rush the process, trust the process. Jerks have been a shaky point for me for months, and they're starting to click. Push press + jerk with 110kg/242lbs, and 120kg/264lbs, doubles with 130kg/286lbs, and some singles with 140kg/308lbs. Definitely a better training day than yesterday's debacle. But they all count towards the end goal, good, bad, or ugly. Progress is progress. Slow and steady wins this race. Get better. T-shirt link in bio.   • Today was a fight. Barbell 1, Dan 0. It was bound to happen I guess. Last weeks heavier lifts caught up to me and my nervous system finally broke down after yesterday.  Got spit out of a 165kg/363lbs clean a few times, worked back down to 150kg/330lbs, and then back up to 165 after I figured out what I was going. Ended up calling this one early after almost dropping a push press on my head shortly after. Sometimes it's better to pick up where you left off instead of continuing to beat a dead horse, and continuing to beat your body up. Time to go eat, get off my feet, soak my muscles, get a good nights sleep, and come back tomorrow to do it all over again. The weights never change. Get better.   • I had one hell of a workout on Saturday. Made some of the heaviest snatches in training I've ever done consistently. Coach still said to me "find that nice deep bottom position again." So today, that's exactly what I worked on. It took me a lot longer than most people to finally make it to a national stage. 6 years to be exact. Some people come into this sport and make it to nationals within a year or two, some after three or four. I wasn't one of those people. I was even told at one point that nationals may never happen for me. Guess what? I put my time in and got my ass on that stage. Lifting heavy weights all the time isn't what got me where I wanted to be. That was a byproduct of a ton of hours spent just like today. Not every workout has to be something special. It's not always about the big lifts in this sport. It's about the process. Showing up when you don't want to show up. Making your sacrifices to get to where you want to be. Focusing on each and every rep you do, over and over again to get it right. It doesn't matter how long it takes, if you want it bad enough you'll get there. Just keep showing up. 4 weeks and counting. Get better.   • Put on a successful seminar this morning @tampasportsacademy, and showed up to an empty gym this afternoon to get some work done. First workout ever making multiple reps at 300+lbs in the snatch (132kg/290lbs, 137kg/301lbs x2 singles), power clean + jerks up to 147kg/323lbs, which I guess is a PR because that's the most I've ever attempted to power clean, and squats for doubles with 200kg/440lbs. This week started off on the rough side, but I'm pleased to finish it this way. Snatches felt good, jerks starting to click, and my legs feel strong. Funny how much better your lifts will feel when you don't have to do your heavy squats at the beginning of your workout! 4 weeks.
