Col. Lynn Ray never planned on being in the military, much less an officer.
But the culture at Philadelphia High School for Girls, a 171-year-old college-prep school, was one in which students were expected to be strong, forward-thinking, and make good grades, she said. So her sights were set on college.
“They made sure you understood you could do anything,” said Ray, who, at Girls, grew accustomed to seeing women in strong leadership roles.
And over her 31-year military career, the North Philadelphia native has consistently shown the mettle, leadership, and Philly attitude she learned at Girls, capturing the attention of her commanders and earn the respect of her subordinates.
On April 4, Ray, who had become a lieutenant colonel assigned to the Pentagon, was promoted to full colonel. She joined a select group of soldiers who have risen to the rank in the regular active-duty Army, where women make up only 11 percent of all colonels, and African American women just 2 percent. Now, she’ll assume the role of Chief of Readiness with the European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. But no matter where she goes, she carries her hometown in her heart.
“I am Philly, all through and through,” she said.

Help Feast of Justice help the Northeast. Did you know that Feast of Justice provides food to over 250 households in the Northeast each week? At this time around the holidays, the need is especially great. While the Thanksgiving parade and the local scouts are working to help them get food for our neighbors, they need even more. They give out 10,000 lb of food each week!
Their volunteers have been working to put together some of these donation boxes. Would you be willing to put one into your business? Let them know. They'd be happy to drop one off--and they can also come to pick up food as it fills. Stop in at 3101 Tyson Ave, call (215) 268-3510, ext 5, or visit https://www.feastofjustice.com/. Let's Make it Mayfair and join together to help the community! #endhunger#phillystrong#mayfair#nephilly

November has been an upside-down month. I’m finishing my first semester of grad school (computer science) in 2 weeks! I’ve also been teaching yoga classes more than usual and it’s been a such a blast that I honestly keep forgetting about insta 🤷♀️ I’m so thankful to have these opportunities to learn and to share. The learning I’m doing now is at first terrifying and overwhelming, but I did grow into a place where it can be both overwhelming and exciting at the same time. I’m learning some really cool stuff! I’m also pleased with how I’ve incorporated a year of physical therapy into my yoga teaching. I hope it’s helpful to you, too. I’m teaching this week Weds 5p, Sat 12p, Sun 12:30p.

“A seed grows with no sound but a tree falls with huge noise. Destruction has noise, but creation is quiet. The power of silence.... Grow silently.” Confucius
Building off of day 1, I remain in the supine position, now producing movement at the legs, while maintaining control of my center.
I typically start with a band assist, which will enable a lot of beginner athletes to “feel” the position as it is intended to feel, as the band is forcing the athlete to engage their core.
I have the man @ihateu_jodi performing a supine leg extension without the band. This is actually a progression, as the band isn’t forcing you to engage, and it will be up to the athlete to fire the right muscles at the right times, in order to remain strong and stable to protect the lumbar spine.
Where does this fit into your program?
Who is this exercise best used for?
How do we know when to progress?
Sunday Mental detox📶 I am a firm believer that you create your own frequencies in the Universe. In order to receive positive frequencies from the Universe, you first have to develop a positive mindset.
The requirements to achieve a positive mindset you have to be willing to be: alone / talked about / blamed for everything / take ownership of your shit✌🏽the reward is priceless !
I can tell you first hand, it will not be an easy task removing unhealthy relationships, unhealthy situations from your circle, but it is worth it. All in all it will be the best decision you will ever make in your entire life. #ask#believe#recieve#prayer#sundaymentaldetox#relax#breathe#exhale#letgoletgod#forgive#bekind#beloving#behappy#begreat#phillystrong#brotherlylove 🙌🏽
