Cold Brew + Reactjs

The usual grind 😂👨🏻‍💻 Finishing up another small Redux project this week and going back to my UX Case study. Kinda fell behind on building my UX portfolio, so gotta pick up the slack on that 🔥👊🏻💯

  • First code I've written in about two weeks 🤓 ⁣
⁣
I've been on paternity leave the past couple weeks which has been super rewarding and also pretty exhausting.⁣
⁣
It's been nice to take a break from code, but also nice to have been able to make some progress on my side project @tinyfeedback today 🤓⁣
⁣
I've got a little over two weeks left of paternity leave, and I'll be enjoying every minute with our little dude. Very thankful for the opportunity ☺️

  • Things I wish I would known when I started programming Part 2. 👨‍💻
.
Hey guys! Next post about things which every programmer who has some experience know. Credits for @Ken Mazaika. 👨‍💻
.
1. Let go of your emotions. You’re going to see error messages on your journey to becoming a programmer. When screwing up is such an integral part of the process, you need to be ok with making mistakes in order to grow.
.
2. You don’t need 5 monitors. Contrary to what Hollywood might tell you, you don’t need an insane external monitor setup to be a programmer. The computer that you own right now is probably good enough to use to start programming. Don’t waste your money. <- I have a huge problem with this one. I love to have a new and great laptop and external screens haha 😂
.
3. There’s a BIG difference between a capital letter and a lowercase letter. It took me a while to get used to noticing subtle differences between similar symbols, and it can be pretty frustrating until you get used to it.😎
.
I will cover more points in the next posts! Let me know what do you think!🐍

  • 📓 Who can name the git commands that move changes between the above three areas? Comment with your answer ⬇ ⁣
⁣
Git is one of those things where it's easy to learn only as much as you need to know to get things done, but it takes a little bit of effort to understand what's really going on and why it works. ⁣
⁣
🙋‍♀️ I used git for the first time at a hackathon in school, and just memorized the handful of commands that I needed to get our projects done. Now that I know the mechanics behind what I type in, it's SO much easier to organize my work exactly how I want to, and fix issues when they arise (which is often 🙈). ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ The 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 contains your project's files. It represents the current version, or snapshot, of the project that you're working on. When you make new changes, they are 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 until you explicitly tell git to track them so they can be saved. ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ The 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮 consists of 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 changes - changes that will be saved in the next snapshot. If you edit a file, add it to the staging area, and then make more edits, those new changes are NOT yet tracked! You must re-add them in order for git to know that you will want to save them soon. ⁣
⁣
3️⃣ The 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 contains project metadata, and a database of compressed forms of every snapshot (version) of your project. When you save your tracked changes, that snapshot is stored in the repository and your changes are 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱. ⁣
