I’ve been getting a ton of messages about this exercise. So decided to chat about it for a second. I love adding the bands to leg raises because I feel like I truly feel the activation in my core. A lot of times we tend to do “abs” but aren’t really using them. For instance with leg raises a lot people will swing a ton, so your using more of your momentum instead of your core

Anyways! I love this exercise but just make sure if you try it that YOU stay in control or have someone hold your back to keep control through it all. .

My first week of the Warrior Strong Method Program is ALL about core activation & building a solid foundation. This is something a lot of people neglect but is so important ! There are still spots open you can apply in bio!

  • I attended my last Classics Award Ceremony as an undergrad and it was bittersweet. Bitter because I will be parting with Wayne State and the department that has guided me for four years, but sweet in that I will be starting a new chapter in my life at the University of Michigan this fall. In total, I received a certificate signifying my degree completion and two awards, one for excellence in Ancient Greek and one that declares me Καλη Κ’αγαθη. Along with the title of “beautiful and good”, I also received a bronze coin minted under Emperor Diocletian in 296/7 CE, my first (and hopefully not last) ancient coin. The only thing left to do is graduate!

  • Decisions decisions it's almost summer, I am done with classes for the semester but I'm not taking the Detroit Public Schools job I got a better opportunity...of course I'll be working for Wayne State still and in addition I have a new job at the University of Michigan at the Ask A Librarian desk yay!   • When you KNOW YOUR TRUTH, you don’t have to defend yourself, react or get angry at other’s opinions of you. ⁣

In order to live a life of victory, you have to be very selective about what you give your time and attention to. You have to recognize which thoughts to ignore, which comments to ignore, and sometimes, which people to ignore. Every “battle” that comes across your path is not a battle that you’re supposed to fight. Many battles are simply distractions to try to lure you off course. If that battle is not between you and your God-given destiny, it’s a battle you should ignore. ⁣⁣

Many people get thrown off course because they are always trying to straighten everyone else out or win their approval. But if that’s your focus, you are wasting valuable time and energy that you should be using to pursue your dreams. Turn away from that distraction! You don’t need the approval of everyone around you...what does your soul desire?!? That’s what’s important! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Y'all, it’s very freeing when you realize you don’t have to fight every battle. You don’t have to straighten people out. You don’t have to pay somebody back. Instead, focus on what matters, focus on God, focus on your soul, your family, yourself, and your destiny so you can live in peace and happiness every day of your life! 💫💗💫⁣⁣

I know 🤯...as a fitness person you’re probably like is she really saying this ...

But let me explain 💁🏻‍♀️

You should NEVER be miserable on your “diet.” Eating clean should still feel good, you shouldn’t be constantly hating your life because your diet is so strict. Food is good ! So you should enjoy it.
.
.
If having a “cookie” a day is going to make you feel better and stop you from going nuts and eating a whole box and completely throwing your healthy eating habits out of the window. The “have the damn cookie.” .
.
If you’re giving the body the nutrients you need everyday then having a cookie is NOT going to ruin all the hard work you put into your workout routine and diet (which I call “fueling”)
.
.
With my Warrior Strong crew I teach them all how to live a SUSTAINABLE healthy life style ;). No crazy detoxing or eliminating , just teaching how to give their body what they need to feel good and REACH those goals.

If you’re ready to CRUSH your athletic goals and learn how to love your diet & of course have a cookie ;). I gotchu !! .

  • I am OBSESSED with Meditation ✨⁣

Meditation has become such a beautiful part of my lifestyle and I can’t imagine not getting it in at least once a day, usually more. ⁣
⁣
I think people (including myself) in the beginning are intimidated or have misconceptions about meditation. They think it’s something that they have to do in one specific way. What I realized, is when you release the control to make it “perfect” or in ways you’ve read in a spiritual book and just lean into silencing the mind how it suits you, you’ll fall more in love with the process. ⁣

The point of meditation is to silence the mind and declutter the chaos flowing through it all of the time. Meditation can look like yoga, nature walks, laying on the floor, hot bath, guided meditations off YouTube, sitting in silence, staring at the stars...whatever you can do to relax your mind without distractions. No phone, no work...just you, your soul and Source. ⁣

Did you know that studies have shown meditation starts to rebuild gray matter in about eight weeks?!? 😍⁣

It’s also proven to lower stress, decrease blood pressure, decrease anxiety, improve psychological disorders, and increase clarity and concentration, just to name a few benefits. ⁣
⁣
Silencing the mind is a necessity in this social media, news driven, chaotic filled world we live in. ⁣
⁣
Some things that help me stay calm...⁣
I avoid watching the news, I send love to the world and chaos in it, I limit social media intake and only follow people or things that fuel my spirit, and I meditate & journal daily. ⁣
I do a lot of other things but those are some super important things to me. ⁣
⁣
I choose to meditate to connect to what’s most important to me...my soul. ⁣
⁣
If you’re interested in meditating...start slow. Start by setting up a space with things that calm you and spark joy, and put your phone on “do not disturb” and sit in silence for 5 minutes to start. You can focus on breath to try and declutter the thoughts. ⁣
⁣
Pro-Tip: Do not judge yourself in this process. Commit to practicing a form of meditation everyday for 30 days and watch the ways your life starts to transform. ⁣
