  • Today let’s talk about one of California’s 🇺🇸 most prominent grapes: Zinfandel.
California Zinfandel originated in Croatia genetically as the variety Crljenak Kastelanski (also known as Italian Primitivo) but is now considered separate due to vine vigor and cluster size. Cultivation, terroir and style make California Zinfandel truly unique from its varietal ‘cousins’. .
.
Introduced in the 1850s, #Zinfandel is the most planted varietal in California, planted in 45 of the 58 counties in the state and 50,000 acres, close to 70% of world wide plantings. Vigorous growth means fierce pruning to maintain a high quality but California still crushes close to 400,000 tons each year. There is even a holiday for Zinfandel, “National Zinfandel Day” celebrated November 19 every year. .
.
One of the most popular styles produced in California is “White Zinfandel” which is a semi-sweet rose style wine. Red wine styles span the range from lighter medium bodied to rich and full almost port like styles. California Zinfandel has a flavor profile that includes blackberry, raspberry, boysenberry and cherry and aromatics of black pepper, closes, anise and herbs; higher in alcohol with lush concentrated flavors and textures. Pair with barbeque, spicy sausage, smoked meats, hard and soft cheeses and even some savory-sweet curry dishes.
.
.
📸In this picture we have @ridgevineyards 2016 Ponzo Zinfandel. Ponzo Vineyard lays in the far Northeastern corner of the Russian River Valley Appellation. Made of 3 blocks, two young (planted in the 1990s) and one old (planted in 1952). The micro climate here has late lingering fog which keeps the site cool. Ponzo Zinfandel is characterized by tart plum, blueberry and bright acidity. .
.
I really like the fact that Ridge prints so much information on the label about the making of the vintage!

  • Today I want to take you back to New York. No, not the city, the state, and upstate in particular. To the Finger Lakes and the wine region surrounding them.

The Finger Lakes AVA is an area encompassing 11,000 acres surrounding 11 glacial lakes. It takes its name from the iconic shape of the lakes: like fingers dragged through the soil carved by the receding glaciers of the last ice age: 11 long narrow gouges in the earth, where beautiful sparkling crystal clear water lies reflecting onto the overlooking hills. .
.
The Finger Lakes produces an astounding number of varietals, over 50 and many of them hybrids. The notable old world vines include Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Viognier, Gamay Noir and Riesling. .
.
The region was first planted in 1829 and has been producing wine since the 1860s. The lakes are deep and help regulate the climate by slowing releasing their stored heat extending the growing season and protecting from early spring frost.
.
.
Finger Lakes wines have characteristic high acidity, low alcohol and crisp citrus notes. The reds also show surprising crispness with light body and strong minerality.
.
.
One Finger Lakes red I tried was @terrassenflx Gamay Noir. The grapes come from 20 year old Beaujolais cuttings. The soil a mixture of limestone, clay and shale. Foot trod and soaked for 9 days the wine has hints of carbonic fermentation. It was then fermented whole cluster with a mix of local wild yeast and years out of Burgundy. Finished with malolactic fermentation in used barriques and rested for 8 months before being bottled unfiltered. .
.
They only made 3 barrels of this wine so I was lucky to try it. Soft but crisp with subtle notes indicative of Gamay. Strawberry and cherry notes but lightened by mineral effervescence. Medium bodied but sits light on the palette, I would call this wine almost delicate and incredibly lovely.
.
.
Have you ever had a wine from Finger Lakes?

  • “We all come from different paths in life but we can find common ground.” ⁣
― Nanette Mathews⁣
⁣
As entrepreneurs, business leaders, investors, innovators, it’s always important to gain clarity and perspective in all important decisions we face. 🌟⁣
⁣
In case you didn’t know what perspective does for you, it provides you with the ability to:⁣
⁣
** Clearly see which challenges are big and which are not. **⁣
⁣
With effort and persistence, we can focus our minds to see the bigger picture, and through constant awareness of how to view the world, we can become more astute at seeing any of its accompanying challenges in order to provide solutions. 🧠⁣
⁣
If you are wanting to gain more perspective into your life, then here are 3 ways to do achieve it:⁣
⁣
1. Personal Development - Gaining perspective by reading books, listening to audiobooks and watching the news. ⁣
⁣
2. Community - Perspective can be gained by supporting charities, businesses, family and your community. ⁣
⁣
3. Expand your Mind - Move beyond tunnel vision to an open mind.⁣
⁣
Linking this back to business, welcoming new perspectives may help you with creating innovative thoughts and ideas and allow you to continue to elevate your business by being able to approach issues with a number of perspectives. Due to be able to see the whole truth and then make clear decisions.⁣
⁣
Are you ready to expand your mind through a glass of wine? 🍷✨

  • Happiness and Smiles! 😄That was my 16th May! 🎂 Thanks to everybody who was part of my Birthday celebration 👸🏽 Near or far, your wishes, love and care made my day fabulous! 😍

A little bit late but here I share some memories from my birthday celebration last Thursday 🥳 I think this was one of the celebrations I enjoyed the most and I felt the happiest about. Seeing my friends and family gathered together, the delicious paella, wine everywhere and the tons of love and effort put into the celebration made me feel the happiest and luckiest woman on earth 🥰 Here I leave some memories of that day! And yes! I love wine 🍷 and I love the red colour ❤
Note 1: gigantic thanks to the man who made this celebration possible and so wonderful! To you, all my love from the bottom of my heart 😘
Note 2: Cheers to all wine lovers, enthusiasts and also occasional wine drinkers (like some of my friends in the photos 😅). I still feel proud of everybody who trained for my wine party 😝

  • “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result.” - A.E. .
I feel insane as I keep opening up these Bourgogne Rouge from Maison Leroy, expecting to have to face reality that the wines are not as great as I have in my head. Every time, the wine is more structured, elegant, and complex than a one could hope a simple regional bottling would be. If you’re looking for regional level wine that is superb right now, or will continue to develop for years to come, buy buy baby!
