  • February is the month in Minnesota when you just can’t take the snow and cold and feeling trapped inside anymore.
.
Someone commented or sent me a message (sorry I have MAJOR mom brain) about carving a maze through the snow for your kids. I immediately wanted to do it. I started out just shoveling a three leaf clover type shape for them to run around. Then I made a little lounge area with a couch carved into the snowbank. Then I made a bucket and shovel station. Then I had the idea to make a slide.
.
There was no way these guys were gonna be able to get up a tiny narrow plastic slide with their huge clunky boots and all their snow gear so I thought I would just make a wide one.
.
I needed a place where they could all run around, not bump into each other and have fun. I literally cannot let them watch another second of TV they’re becoming zombies.
.
I iced it down last night with a spray water bottle hoping the slide would freeze and be more slippery but we’ve had so much sunshine lately it’s still a little slushy. Works though, they think it’s perfect! Looking forward to lots of afternoons outside in the backyard now.
.
I also saw Target has all their lawn furniture out, it’s a sign. I’m imagining my feet up on a new set and a Strawberry Refresher in my hand while they tire themselves out going down the slide 97 times in a row. Go check out my stories for the videos.
.
What are you doing to beat the winter blues?
.
(I did this in two days during their nap times, way easier than it looks. Shoutout to my neighbor for seeing us and coming out with her shovel to help. And to my dad for coming over to help me build up the slide. ✌🏼)

  • Lemme tell ya, it’s snow laughing matter being cooped up all winter with three toddlers.
.
(ℐ𝒸𝓎 𝓌𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒹𝒾𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒𝓇𝑒 👆🏼)
.
Yes, it takes just about as long to get ready to go sledding as the time we actually spend there but man it is worth it. Nothing beats some sunshine, mixing up the routine and getting OUT of house! Laughter is always good medicine for the soul too. It’s a riot listening to them giggle on the way down, and not gonna lie... I still like sledding too.
.
I put some video of them at the hill in my stories.
.
Even though my jam is 85 and sunny, I’m trying to still get out and do fun things with the girls. I don’t want to wish these days away just waiting for spring.
.
If you live in the cold, how are you fighting off cabin fever? Ideas welcome!

  • Believe it or not, the Toronto Islands are alive in the winter! (and less crowded)

Thanks for the great tips @seeusoontravel. Check out her profile for more content on how to get there and what to do.

  • ❄️SNOW PAINT❄️ Anyone else buried under snow right now 🙋🏻‍♀️ We are digging our way out in the PNW and trying to enjoy this snow (we don’t get snow a lot so it’s a big deal when it happens) ☃️ This is such an easy way to bring the snow inside if you are, and I’m just saying this hypothetically, so tired of putting snow clothes on kids that you can’t handle it anymore 🤣🤣🤣 Only 1 of 3 of my kids is mostly snow clothing independent and I have had a years worth of cardio dressing them all day 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ Anywho, bring the snow inside - I learned this trick from @teachpreschool 😉 Shovel some good snow into a sensory bin (this is my beloved 41 qt “two buns bin” from Target that I use for big sensory) 🌟 Add in bowls (these are IKEA brand) full of water with food coloring 👏🏻 Give the kids some brushes and let them paint the snow 😱 It’s that easy 🙌🏻 The food coloring is so diluted from the water that it doesn’t stain anything 👏🏻 The kids have a BLAST doing this and it’s so nice to see them playing with snow while I’m not out of breath from putting on boots 🤣🤣 Keep this one in mind on your next snow day or bust it out now 🙌🏻 It’s a winner 🎉🎉🎉

  • This warmer weather has been amazing! We've been out to play, puddle jumping, and even opened the windows! But as we are so accustomed to here in Barrie, it doesn't mean the warmer weather is likely here to stay. So, definitely check out Andrea's @inspiringplay_toys next wonder adventure with @mystudiobyoga!!!

  • It’s been so cold this winter. To avoid getting sick, we mostly stayed at home in the weekends. Took kids for a walk/scooter ride after dinner last Friday night. They are not afraid of the cold weather as long as they can play. Then I took them for a sunset ride. We stopped by this pretty hilltop to overlook the town of Liberty. The sunset is still pretty in winter. Everything will be fine. .

  • Living in Minnesota, we have to learn to embrace the winters. Join CBC’s Snowshoe Club led by trainer Corey Robertson and trek around the nearby lakes. It’s a great cardio workout and most importantly, you’ll have fun! Ask the front desk for more information. #MotivationalMonday

  • USE. YOUR. LEGS!!!! Sheesh. Nothing like skiing with preschoolers. It can be tough to troubleshoot the complaints of a 3 or 4 year old. Too cold? Ill -fitting equipment? Needs a nap? Hungry? You may never really know. The goal is to lay a foundation so they (and you) can enjoy skiing more and more as they grow. Those first years require some patience though. I’m a big advocate of skiing with friends. Kids just do better when they have pals with them to distract, encourage, and motivate them, usually without even saying anything. I’ve found the same to be true with hiking. Get some friends or cousins to come along and help those kids have fun while building skills. .
