Reposted from @productionmusiclive - Singers sing, pianists play and guitarists have their fretboards to write melodies with different approaches, strengths and directions.
But even if you are able to sing, play the piano or shred on your guitar, there will be times when you feel blocked or just don’t have the right instrument with you.
These are two possible times you could open your piano roll to get inspired for a melody or use it to program what’s in your head!
We like to give you little helpers to spark ideas from and ignite a new track. We use these methods and techniques ourselves, although we play instruments - it is just a different approach and creates different songs.
Today’s tip is very obvious for pianists, but might be more tricky for singers or guitarists, since vocals chords and strings are used differently. As a piano player chances are high, that your first song ever written consisted of only black keys ;) - who else? Only me? Tell us in the comments!
1 draw in a note on every black key
2 collapse or fold the view to stay focused
3 start creating little motifs and sequences
4 try to implement ascending and descending movements and figures
5 repeat motifs on different notes
6 draw bass notes only using black keys
7 add your lo-fi drums
8 apply subtle changes to some notes
As in most Lo-Fi tracks some vinyl crackling and some swing on the beat will get you closer to the sound you have in mind. By side chaining the harmonic tracks to different elements of your beat, you can create unusual textures and movements.

As every Sunday we serve a lighter musical dish that is still super fun to make in your beat kitchen back home.
If you are following us for some time now you know that we are always hyped to find cool tricks to humanize our hi hats. Static or non evolving heads are mindnumbing and people tend to get bored.
It is always good to have many possibilities to create a certain feeling, because one technique will work better on that sound or another.
Feel free to use all our Tips on more sounds or instruments than we Show you. In one Minute we only have time to cover the Basics. But Hopefully you get inspired to make these tips your own.
Today's hi hat technique is easy to make and fun to play around with.
1 load open hi hat and create long midi note
2 add arpegiattor and LFO
3 Set to random and decrease depth
4 increase rate and set to 100% smooth
5 map to hat decay
6 decrease sustain and adjust offset
7 now program your drums
If you want to play around with the samples and sounds we used, go to our stories and swipe up to download our 'Deep Premium 2' Pack for 19€. Have a relaxing Sunday every body and see you tomorrow!
If it’s not a YES it’s a NO.
When making music there’s the magic moments and there’s the ones where you’re like „I can fix this later, it’s kinda ok“. I had to learn to trust my first instincts with this and focus only on the clear YES. If an idea is only semi exciting, try to find something better. I lied to myself so many times by trying to convince myself it could be something. This also translates to other decisions we make in life. When something is a clear YES, go for it. If it’s a maybe, it’s rather a NO.
🎹 It's been weeks since the last time I practice #fingerdrumming with #melodics app and just now I just noticed that they'll limit your session to just 5 mins of play time after some weeks or if you aren't subscribed anymore.
Melodics are kinda useful and fun to use; but at $30 monthly fees, or the discounted annual fee at $180/yr ; it is frankly way overpriced 💸 . Call me a cheapskate, but some software should not be treated as subscription based service, especially not when pricing it higher than the feature they can offer. Subscription model for software is just #wack . At least let me play my previously unlocked lessons without time limit goddamit 😠 .
I have TONS of new tunes coming out soon. The last year or so I have been experimenting A LOT and feel like I am finally finding "my sound". It seems funny to say since I have been releasing music for almost exactly 3 years. The fact is, it takes A LONG time to craft a sound you could get known for and be good at it. More then anything, I am grateful for all of the amazing creative people I have been meeting. You guys all push me!⠀
Also, my label is now live and will be releasing music soon. It's @vibrascura. Hit me with that follow fam! It means the world to me. Much love!
