mangolicious acai bowl today 🥭🥥 so i’m hooked on Jane The Virgin and i’m already on the second season and it’s been like 5 days 😂 I ate this bowl this morning before goin to Trader Joe’s to stock up on food for the week & more smoothie bowl ingredients 🤩💜 after shopping I tanned at the pool while listening to my all time fav podcast @girlsgottaeatpodcast & then crushed it at @otfarlingtonmarket with a killer workout 🍊🧡
Acai berry raw vegan smoothie, with green moringa nice cream and coconut youghurt. Acai berries are one of the most antioxidant powerhouses. Our bodies depend on antioxidants to fight the effects of an overabundance of free radicals, produced from both normal cell metabolism and exposure to environmental and external elements. Its a normal physiological process, but when too many free radicals form, it’s more difficult for the body to destroy them on its own. Leading to oxidative stress, believed to be the trigger behind many chronic diseases, including autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and mitigate their potential to cause damage. Acai berries are rich in antioxidant.
The antioxidant capacity of foods is rated using an analysis called ORAC, which stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. The higher the rating, the stronger the antioxidant power of a food, meaning foods that rate high on the scale increase the antioxidant power of the body’s blood supply by 10-25%. Acai berries rate in the top 25 antioxidant foods with aN ORAC value of 102,700. For comparison, blueberries – have an ORAC value of 4,669.
They are high in polyphenols and have been shown to improve with a total LDL Açaí have a positive impact on metabolic health and also on the skin.

Matcha taste from ice cream quite strong, come with smooth chocolate truffle ooooo.
Brownie also not bad as its more bitter and not overly sweet like usual brownies. But too little ice cream to go with, whole desserts felt too warm 😐

In order to be the thriving, zesty, productive and exuberant person you wish to be, you equally need the slow, reflective and resting time. The two go hand in hand🌱
In working 6 different jobs, enrolled in 5 units at uni, training 5-6 times a week, maintaining a social life and of course running this Instagram and blog, I had no time for rest; no time for reflection, no time to feel the slow and just be🍊
I learnt the hard way the importance of rest. I’ve opened up about this before, but 3-4 years ago I severely suffered from chronic fatigue. The experience was debilitating, isolating and excruciatingly hard. After changing my lifestyle, diet and working with some amazing medical practitioners, my health not only returned, but I was thriving🌙 ✨
However, especially of late, in getting caught up with wanting to achieve my goals, work hard and ‘grind,’ I forgot the crucial lesson I learnt when I suffered from chronic fatigue, and that is rest (to the point now where it’s a real ‘effort' to rest on a Sunday ahah but i’m working on it!) 🙏🏽 I’m strict when it comes to priorities and getting things done. If I set my mind to something I’ll do it! So I had to ask myself, why wasn't I prioritising rest? Sometimes we need to have a bump in the road to reassess where we’re going, and that’s where I was at! I’ve taken the last 2 Sundays off and it’s been a game changer for my mental clarity, emotional wellbeing and overall happiness 🍌
I encourage you too friends, to make rest a priority. Health is so much more than what you eat, how hard you train, and so on, rest is a crucial element to the vitality of your life!🦋

Blend the frozen banana in a high speed blender (I used my thermomix!) Once smooth and creamy add the cacao powder & @mayversfood peanut butter’ Slowly add the ice, each time you blend the ‘ice cream’! Then top with your desired toppings!🍌

I had a long think about this, and for so long I solely thought it relied on what we put into our bodies, and whilst this holds such power and determinant, the truth is the state of our health depends on so many other elements too!🌱 -
I’m really intrigued by Ayurvedic medicine and so naturally in my studies reflected upon their philosophy of illness and disease. For those of my friends who aren’t sure what the principle of ayurvedic medicine is, in short, Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system based on ancient writings that rely on a natural and holistic approach to physical and mental health🙏🏽 -
In delving into Ayurvedic medicine there were pointers regarding ill-health that really aligned and made sense to me. I thought I’d share! In Ayurvedic medicine, causes of imbalance and disease include;
🍊Debilitating personal habits
🍊A lifestyle which isn’t serving you physically, mentally or spiritually
🍊Incompatible food combinations
🍊Repressed emotions and stress
Reflecting on some of these pointers Ayurveda highlights, I ask you friends, how much does this reign true to you? I know for myself, when I get sick or feel ill, 99% of the time it’s because of lack of rest and fatigue; it’s my body’s way of slowing me down and making me recoup!🦋

Traditionally, nutritional intervention and diet focus on advice to restrict intake of certain foods or nutrients (such as reduce saturated fats, calorie intake, sodium and so on)🍔 -
But wait a second Raquel, don’t you promote a ‘diet’ which ‘restricts’ certain food groups? I guess that’s one way of looking at it? But I suppose the flip-side to that argument is that it's a choice, not a restriction or deprivation or 'diet' for that matter! 🌱- Instead of focussing on what I can’t eat, such as no dairy, eggs or meat, I rather focus on what I can eat from an array of plant-based whole-foods! Instead of focussing on my way of eating as a ‘diet,’ I view it as a lifestyle!🦋 -
I choose to not consume certain food groups like eggs, dairy and meat because it doesn’t physically make me feel good🕺🏻 I noticed a profound difference in my weight, energy and overall vitality when I switched to a fully plant-based whole-food diet🥑Now that I’m studying nutrition and exposing myself to so much new evidence (it’s what I do in my free time haha), this personal choice has been amplified in belief even more so💪🏽I don’t not consume these food groups because I ‘restrict’ or ‘forbid’ them. I don't consume these food groups because they don't serve me!🙏🏽 -
However, basic psychological principles hold that when people are faced with a restriction or loss of choice, that a choice or commodity becomes more attractive! That’s why my philosophy and advice is simple!🍌
▻Focus on eating an array of plant-based whole-foods, instead of focussing on what you can’t eat!
▻Focus on how you mentally and physically feel after consuming certain foods!
▻Focus on the lifestyle, not the diet!
When we do that friends, our entire focus and intention changes!
