The wider you set your feet the deeper the stretch. Make sure when the back is straight your really flatten off your lower back by pulling your belly button in to the spine.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
When the arms are extended reach all the way to the end of your finger tips. Try and incorporate your breathe with every movement. Breathing in start the movement, hold, then a nice long deep exhale at the end. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
There’s no rush to get through the sequence, in fact the longer you hold the better, enjoy each position 😇 If you find a stiff or sore spot, stay in the spot for a little longer to help release it 😌

I won’t breakdown all the technical points of the jump, as I want you to look at the general workflow through the different stages.

The sequence of exercises progress from the simplest to hardest. This is how you want to approach your practice, because it sets you up to succeed more than you fail 🙌🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Each phase of the jump is very clear, all staying as close a possible to the barrier. The three turn, pivot, takeoff, transfer, and landing positron. As you progress through each phase make sure each remains clear and strong as the exercise speeds up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
Always hit the toe forwards on the takeoff, never swing or pull the front arm, always drive from the back arm and free-leg, this helps align the body correctly. The same concept applies regardless if you’re doing a single, double, triple, or quad jump.

  • STORIES ON ICE: My love for skating, passion for choreography, and desire to positivity impact people lives has inspired me to create a brand new series called “Stories On Ice”. My very first choreographic story comes from my longtime friend, Taylor Sirset. Our collaboration is a symbol of continuing uncomfortable, yet necessary conversations to help those who are struggling and to prevent others from enduring the same pain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Taylor’s Story: “Throughout my life, the ice has been the place where I was able to be completely vulnerable- a place where I could express my emotions and feel safe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a survivor of sexual assault, I’ve had a lot of healing to do. I’ve had to come to terms with what happened, and learn from the battles I’ve fought. I’d written about what happened to me. I had discussed it extensively in therapy, but there was something missing. I hadn’t brought those emotions to the ice. I hadn’t brought them to my safe place because I didn’t want to tarnish it. Then I realized that maybe the acceptance of what had happened to me would come when I took it to the ice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is when I reached out to Michelle. She’s been a friend of mine for as long as I can remember. We grew up with the rink being our favorite place, our safe place. I knew that she would help me navigate the emotions of telling my story, and she would also help me use my experience as a way to speak out against something that society has tried so desperately to brush under the rug. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Consent MATTERS. No means no. It’s okay to speak out when someone’s actions or words make you feel uncomfortable. It’s especially important to stand up for your friends when you see that they might be experiencing something inappropriate. In a world that can be so harsh and cut throat, we all need to stand together.   • TIP OF THE DAY: How do you all feel about trying new workouts?! I highly encourage you to go for things that are outside of your comfort and to not be scared to fail. As a figure skater, working out in a conventional gym may be quite intimidating. In addition, there are a ton of highly produced fitness guru workout videos online that may make you feel less than. Thus, today I wanted to share my non-perfect ab workout with you because pushing yourself to continue even when it hurts is way more satisfying than pretending to be perfect. 💓💪🏼

This exercise is skated on a continued serpentine  pattern. The steps go backward crossover to landing position, then switch sides to continually repeat the sequence.

To start with you need to focus on learning the alignment and always bringing your feet together to change side. Only start lifting your free-leg higher and adding arms when you have full understanding of the technique.

I want your body weight always leaning into the circle, keeping the hips and shoulders connected at all times. The free-leg should extend to either 5 or 7 o’clock (refer to my numerous landing position videos for more detail on this concept). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you go down down down or bend bend bend during the backcross and landing set. Then rise up to zip the feet together to change side. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Last night was my last LTS lesson of the summer - testing night. I was hoping to pass all the way through Basic 4 / Adult 4 (one of my LTS classes had us doing the regular basic skills program, and one had us doing the adult program, but they’re pretty much the same so 🤷🏻‍♀️). I was a little nervous because while I can definitely perform all of the skills in Basic / Adult 4, I still sometimes struggle with my outside edges on a circle - consistency is not totally there. Last night I felt strong though, and I skated my best (and I have to believe the new skates are already helping me be more confident in those edges!). I’m so proud of myself and the progress I’ve made in the past 8 months despite my pre-existing concussion issues and my sprained ankle. I may not be progressing at the same speed as others, but my pace is my pace, last night I was actually able to embrace that. Now onwards to the last two levels of basic skills, and after that... well, the future awaits! #USFSA #basicskills #iceskating #iceskater #figureskating #figureskater #adultfigureskating #adultfigureskater #adultsskatetoo @adultsskatetoo

Now, 11 years after I stopped competing, I decided to join my fellow Skating Club of Lake Placid adult skater friends and I've signed up for the 2019 International Adult Figure Skating Competition in Lake Placid October 14-19! And not one, but two events. 💃🏻😳

All I need to do now is..... 1) Start skating more regularly

2) Choreograph two new programs 
3) Work on my jumps

4) Figure out my boot and blade situation

5) Practice said programs 
6) Not stress myself out unnecessarily

  • STORIES ON ICE: My love for skating, passion for choreography, and desire to positivity impact people lives has inspired me to create a brand new series called “Stories On Ice”. My very first choreographic story comes from my longtime friend, Taylor Sirset. Our collaboration is a symbol of continuing uncomfortable, yet necessary conversations to help those who are struggling and to prevent others from enduring the same pain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Taylor’s Story: “Throughout my life, the ice has been the place where I was able to be completely vulnerable- a place where I could express my emotions and feel safe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a survivor of sexual assault, I’ve had a lot of healing to do. I’ve had to come to terms with what happened, and learn from the battles I’ve fought. I’d written about what happened to me. I had discussed it extensively in therapy, but there was something missing. I hadn’t brought those emotions to the ice. I hadn’t brought them to my safe place because I didn’t want to tarnish it. Then I realized that maybe the acceptance of what had happened to me would come when I took it to the ice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is when I reached out to Michelle. She’s been a friend of mine for as long as I can remember. We grew up with the rink being our favorite place, our safe place.     As a survivor of sexual assault, I’ve had a lot of healing to do. I’ve had to come to terms with what happened, and learn from the battles I’ve fought. I’d written about what happened to me. I had discussed it extensively in therapy, but there was something missing. I hadn’t brought those emotions to the ice. I hadn’t brought them to my safe place because I didn’t want to tarnish it. Then I realized that maybe the acceptance of what had happened to me would come when I took it to the ice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    That is when I reached out to Michelle. She’s been a friend of mine for as long as I can remember. We grew up with the rink being our favorite place, our safe place. I knew that she would help me navigate the emotions of telling my story, and she would also help me use my experience as a way to speak out against something that society has tried so desperately to brush under the rug. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    Consent MATTERS. No means no. It’s okay to speak out when someone’s actions or words make you feel uncomfortable. It’s especially important to stand up for your friends when you see that they might be experiencing something inappropriate.   • Day 6 in a row on the ice. Things feel really different just in the last week. Confident, strong, some of it even might look good, which helps a lot - when I can lean into places where au have grace/aptitude, it’s easier to make myself work on a thing. And I have at least figured out what that is and a way to practice forward crossovers from proper stroking at the boards. I could even feel it starting to improve today. My goal is to have these no longer be a problem by the time my coach is back from holiday in September. #adultsskatetoo

  • Jennifer Dragotta only took two Learn to Skate lessons as a child before the rink in her hometown closed and her dreams of being able to spin were dashed. Luckily it's never too late to skate! ⁠⠀

She started skating as an adult two years ago and has since competed in three competitions, completed her pre-bronze moves in the field and freeskate tests, and has begun teaching in the Learn to Skate program. ⁠⠀

"Skating is easily the best part of my day! The coaches and skaters have become my second family and we all cheer each other on. I can finally do that spin I always wanted to do as a kid, and I can't wait to continue skating for years to come."⁠⠀

  • Hey friends! Now that I’ve crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s, I can officially share that 🗣 YA BOY IS GOING INTERNATIONAL TO SKATE!!! I’m thrilled to be joining the cast of the Autostadt ice show in Wolfsburg, Germany this winter! This is an absolute dream come true and I’m so, so beyond excited and grateful for this new opportunity. Cheers to the future and to following your dreams, heart and passions!!

Last year at this time, I earned my third USFS Gold Medal, making me a triple gold medalist in Partnered Pattern Ice Dance, Solo Free Dance, and Moves in the Field. 
One year later... I achieved the ability to hold my thumb up 👍 🎊 🎉 
Let me tell you, this is NOT the victory I envisioned myself celebrating a year ago. Instead, I thought I’d test my first International Ice Dances TODAY, taking me one step closer to my goal of earning that fourth Gold Medal. . . 
But life is FULL of unpredictable changes. We cannot possibly know what we will accomplish a year from now, a month from now, or even a day from now. ⭐️ So even though I’m bummed that I can’t test my dances, I’m PROUD that I’m taking care of body well enough to impress my physical therapists with my speedy progress 🤣

Keep everything in perspective...and best of luck to all the @pittsburghfsc skaters testing tomorrow!
