  • What is your favourite thing about coming home?
I have a tradition with my kids that we go out for dinner and catch up on my first day back. There’s nothing I love more than trading stories and having a laugh over good food.
No matter how tired I am, or what else is going on we always seem to make the time together work. Home truly is where your heart is, and mine is wherever they are.
This image was from my trip to Iceland in March. I know I promised South America pics - they are coming!
This is another shot taken on my Sony A7R III with the Sony 12-24 mm f/4 at 12 mm. I love this lens so much ♥️ And guess what finally arrived at my front door when I got home!? My very own 24 mm f/1.4. I had a chance to test out this lens during my #100NightsUnderTheStarsProject thanks to the support of @sonyalpha I fell in love with this low light monster of a lens, and had to get one of my own! It is new moon this weekend and the mountains are calling!

  • Happy Holidays! 🎄

I’m still editing photos from the ladies retreat sponsored by @bhphoto. I spent 5 days shooting and exploring with women who inspire me with their creativity, skill, and thirst for adventure. @tracyleephotos @missjessbess @dreamingandwandering @themandagies @charlottelittlewolf @kelly_mena @brook_asaurus I can’t wait to get out shooting with you all again! ♥️ We stayed at the iconic @emeraldlakelodge in Yoho National Park, and explored the surrounding areas.
I have one spot left on my January 16th - 21st Canadian Rockies Photography Workshop - Alpha Female Retreat. See the link in my bio for more info. ☺️ 📸 I shot this timelapse on my Sony A7RIII (see my stories for the full crop!) with the Zeiss 21 mm Loxia. The moon was so bright that I was able to shoot at f/16, 10 second exposures, ISO 3200. I edited it in Adobe Camera Raw, then processed the timelapse in @adobe after effects.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season spent with your loved ones. 🎄🎁 #alphacollective #bealpha #SlikUSA #ShootSlik @sonyalpha @bhphoto @slikusa

  • 2018 was an amazing year....but I’m already too excited to see what 2019 will bring for adventures! Wasting no time at all, we start with a trip to Indonesia in about a months time! Is it weird that I already have my swim gear and snorkelling mask sitting by the door!! 😂 I don’t think so 🤷🏼‍♂️. Who else has some trips planned....where are we going?? .............................................................

  • Winter has settled upon the Canadian Rockies and it’s soooo beautiful! The light has been stunning, and the ice and snow create so many amazing shapes and textures that change every day. I have several winter workshops scheduled for January. Among them, I’m super excited to announce my first Ladies Retreat! This six day workshop is sponsored by @bhphoto and @sonyalpha We have some fun surprises in store for this workshop, so stay tuned! For more information check out the link in my bio!

  • I am having the time of my life in the Dolomites. I’m so in love with this place. ❤️ I won’t be able to share photos from this adventure for a few weeks, so here is one from last winter that I haven’t shared yet.
I don’t like shooting blue skies. But I can’t resist sharing these amazing bubble formations. The opaque looking bubbles at the bottom are new bubbles forming. Join me here this winter for two days of shooting this unique phenomenon. Follow the link in my bio for more info! ❄️☃️❄️ Thanks for following along on my adventure. ❤️ Rachel

  • On the last day of our trip to Arizona with @Sony I had a chance to test out the new A7III. This camera blew me away. For those of you who have shot with me before, you know that I almost always use a tripod and I never shoot in autofocus. This shot was a single image, hand held, and shot in auto focus using the 24-70 mm G Master f/2.8. The wind was so aggressive that getting near the ledge to shoot Horseshoe bend was difficult at best. At one point the wind hurled a rock that broke the front element of Tony’s (@tony.bennett ) lens. And when I took this shot the sun was so bright that I couldn’t see to focus manually. I underexposed a bit, and set the camera to autofocus. I took a single shot and moved on to find a composition where I could see the full bend. As you can see, the image is tack sharp, and the A7III handled the high dynamic range of the scene like a boss. This camera delivered a beautiful, sharp image in some seriously challenging conditions. I will post the full landscape version to my stories so check it out. ☺️

  • A Wednesday “Wave” to all my friends 🤨🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️. So bad....soooo bad! Haha. Anyhoooo, we just returned from another road trip adventure to southern Utah/northern Arizona. And guess what?? With the odds stacked well up against us, we scored a permit from the walk in/last minute lottery into Coyotes Buttes North. Anyone who has looked into this knows exactly how difficult that is....pretty darn lucky! And so my thoughts hiking in that morning “.....yeah, I’m sure it is going to be “cool” to see, but I’m more sure social media has “blown it up” so badly that it will be a bit of a let down when I finally get there”. Those of you that travel around chasing some of the usual suspects have definitely experienced this before...I am sure. You arrive to an amazing & iconic place that you’ve dreamed of going over and over, just to be slightly disappointed because “actually being there” could never live up to your over-fantasized visualization of what the place should actually look and feel like. Well NOPE - not here! I was insanely impressed! Now to be fair, I grew up in the Rocky Mountains so just exploring an area like this, where the overall terrain is so unique....so different than anything I have ever seen before... well, that gets me pretty darn excited right off the bat! So maybe a slightly slanted opinion 🤷🏼‍♂️...maybe not? Coyote Buttes, the small portion of it that I did get to see is very impressive alone....but then to walk into the actual section called “The Wave”....well, that was something pretty special! If I think of the Earth's surface as an amazing display of an artist's immaculate hand crafted creation...then this might just be her "magnum opus"! 👌🏼 ============================================================
