🧡I like the freedom in this print, there's always freedom when you don't know what you're doing. This was one of my firsts. Now I know a little bit and already feel the spontaneity becoming scarce. What to do? 🤔

We have the great pleasure to announce the sale of a unique original Bamoun Grassland throne (app. 140x60 cm) coming from the collection of Prince Njoya Ibrahim of Cameroon together with one tusk-like Royal pillar (app. 240x30 cm) to the States Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw founded in 1888. The second pillar was given by us on loan to the museum for exhibition till mid 2022. We are extremely proud, that both - throne and the tusk-like pillars will be the center pieces of the museums newly furbished African department scheduled to open in the end of the first quarter 2020. The photos show the throne after delivery at our gallery and the complete ‚set‘ together with our gallery director Aleksandra Baranowska at the office of the director of the States Ethnographic Museum. The museum still needs several smaller objects for the planned exhibition. We invite those of you interested in philanthropy and liking the idea of possessing a beautiful art work given for app. two years on loan to the museum to contact us to see the unique possibilities.

Last night in a ceremony at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Joana Choumali, the Ivorian photographer, was presented with the Eighth Prix Pictet for her series Ça va aller (it will be ok) on this cycle’s theme of Hope.
As with William Kentridge, she chooses to draw attention to invisible conditions and the residue of trauma, via colourful lines which she sews into her photographs. There is a kind of Vincent van Gogh vibe going on too.
The series of photographs were taken weeks after the terrorist attacks in Grand Bassam in 2016. Choumali said ‘This work is a way to address the way Ivorian people deal with trauma and mental health. Each stitch was a way to recover, to lay down the emotions, the loneliness, and mixed feelings I felt. Adding embroidery on these street photographs was an act of channelling hope and resilience.’ #photography#art#africanart#trauma#contemporaryart#artprizes#africa#ivorycoast#wartimeart
