  • {Thanks for the #freebook @fsgbooks} #CurrentlyReading #MiracleCreek by @angiekimask ! Y’all, THIS BOOK! I started today and I kind of can’t stop thinking about it. I was actually going to read this book during the summer for a **certain bookclub** pick (ahem), but since I’m going to DC this week and will see the author, I’m starting now! I love how the characters are Korean immigrants, and while this novel does show the difficult lives of immigrants, it’s not just about lives as immigrants. If you are in the DC area, you should come to @politicsprose to see Angie Kim (and me)!
.
I’m going to DC to see a friend I met on this community. We bonded over a lot of things but we’ve never met irl. So, trying to explain this trip to people has been quite funny! They think I am brave and adventurous. I was also told to take some pepper spray! Haha. But I know YOU understand. The people I have “met” on #bookstagram is the one reason that keeps me on this platform. And I’m always so thrilled to meet more and more people in real life. Thankfully, I’m going with another #bookstagrammer I have met! Any guesses as to who I am meeting?
.
Also, @allisonreadsdc is the best! She sent me a long email of all these amazing recommendations for books and food. I hope to see you in DC and you’d better have read Evelyn Hugo by then or I’m spoiling it for you❤️

  • "Flora Palaestina" is a book by artist Nurit Gur Lavy [@nuritgurlavy] which presents a selection of her art devoted to painting the flowers and plants of the Land of Israel. In botanical terminology "flora" denotes the entire plant life occurring in a particular place (region, country, etc.) or an extensive scientific publication that classifies plants. Flora Palaestina, then, refers to the plant life in the Land of Israel. In the artist's "Flora Palaestina", paintings, drawings, and etchings are steeped in dialectics, oscillating between botanical scientific commitment to the portrayal of the flowers' details and a personal, artistic, and creative freedom of expression, on the meanings it holds, including the stance which is the destination of these lines. 💐📖🌿(text by Ron Bartos). #FloraPalaestina #InPrintJLM #NuritGurLavy

  • Shiver, linger, forever. I actually love the German titles of this books Nach dem Sommer, ruht das Licht, in deinen Augen. It makes a sentence. After the summer the light rests in your eyes 😍💕
.
.
I guess I was always scared of the winter cause winter meant my depression got worse. But for once I think I am more scared of the summer. All my friends will be home for months but I will only get two weeks of home. But I guess that is something to look forward to. However I am prepared for the summer with lots of books 💕
.
.
What is your favorite season? Mine is autumn because everything looks nice and pretty. It’s warm enough to still wear dresses but also cold enough to cuddle up with a coffee in bed 😍

  • Böyle hoyrat ezdirmeyin gözleri
Ahh çiçeksiz büyümesin çocuklar
Kanatmayın ufka giden yolları
Ahh aşksız büyükesin çocuklar

Işıl ışıl ışıldasın gözleri
Pırıl pırıl parlasın yüzleri
Dilden dile haykırsın sözleri
Ahh türküsüz büyümesin çocuklar

Kaldırın bu duvarları taşları
Dimdik olsun yürekleri başları
Sofralardan eksiltmeyin başları
Ahh ekmeksiz büyümesin çocuklar

Bitsin bu barut ve kan kokusu
Bitsin artık savaşların korkusu
Bölünmesin anaların uykusu
Ahh yarınsız büyümesin çocuklar

Gökyüzünden yağmur gibi hediye
Sevgileri yağdıralım aşk diye
Doya doya doyuralım sevgiyle
Ahh sevdasız büyümesin çocuklar

  • Did you know that THE OPPOSITE OF DROWNING by Racheline Maltese & Erin McRae releases today?
This is a queer M/F office romance with an age gap and a bi hero. It also contains publishing snark, food trucks, international travel, and the strong possibility that the heroine is the actual embodiment of ecological disaster.
My copy downloaded this morning and I'm super excited to dive in!

Blurb:

Harry Sargent hates his job in publishing, his life in New York City, and his motley collection of disreputable best friends. Making everything worse? He's about to turn 50 and has a crush on the much-younger woman his company just hired to move them into the digital age.

At 27, Elizabeth Anne Abgral loves her job, her life, and maybe even her fiancé. But no one can have it all, and as long as she does everything her old-fashioned, high-society New England family expects of her, she'll probably be happy. Right?! But when she meets a handsome – and mischievous – older man at her new job, that illusion shatters.

As she and Harry bicker their way through industry events around the world, Elizabeth finds herself tossing rationality – and her plans – to the wind.

But just because Harry has long wished his life were different, doesn’t mean he’s ready to risk his heart on a passion that frightens him… or a peculiar young woman with the uncanny ability to make cities flood every time they kiss. *** This book contains the death of a non-MC from cancer (not graphic, and a telegraphed part of the plot from the moment he appears). The workplace romance includes two individuals at an equal professional level.

  • Oster-Tipps🐥
• • •
"The Sun and her Flowers" - Rupi Kaur🌻
Was wäre Frühling ohne ein bisschen Poesie?

  • QOTD: How did you celebrate Easter? 🐣🌸
×××
Hi booknerds!! I'm finally back 😪. My Easter was really hectic l, and I was literally going to church 24/7. But life is normal again now, and should be able to take more bookstagram photos today and tomorrow before school starts again on Thursday. Sorry about the hiatus 😖😅.
×××
I don't usually do Easter egg hunts because none of my family likes chocolate (😦😦 I know 😂) so it would be a waste. My dad is really religious so we mostly spend time in church. 🤧🤷🏾‍♀️

  • On Monday, I was excited to meet Ugandan writer Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi. I’ve read her book Kintu. I was glad to buy a copy of her latest book Let Us Tell This Story Properly, a collection of stories about Ugandan immigrant experiences in Britain.
I shared with her that I finish my MFA in Creative Writing program in three weeks and I’m working on a manuscript about Ugandan immigrant experiences in the U.S. She gave me valuable advice about publishing back home in Uganda and internationally. She also shared positive ways she dealt with rejection, and how she remained resilient after rejection. She even shared with the audience that she keeps a file of over 80 rejection letters and uses it as a source of motivation.

I think what I liked most about Makumbi is that she was accessible, real, and down to earth. She didn’t act like the literary celebrity she is—I had this urge to remind her who she was. I respected her even more because she is raising children who have lived most of their lives outside of Uganda but continues to use her Luganda language and teaches her children their culture to maintain that connection to home, to Uganda. #writing #literature #books #writers #Ugandanwriters #Uganda #Africanwriters #amwriting #amreading #booklovers #ilovebooks #Africa #immigrantstories #Diaspora #washingtondc #dmv

A late post for me today, but I’m feeling unwell 🤧 so it’s going to be slow going for me this week! .

Do you have any custom made items??? .

I couldn’t go another day without posting about my tbr Cart. It is the best purchases I have made in a while and it helps me keep a track of the books I am reading! .
.
.
I also am shameless and couldn’t not show of my custom made candle from @elvenwickcandles with my handle on and my @bookbookowl bookmark 😍😍 you will be seeing more of these in my future photos!

  • Top of the morning, Synners!
.
Did you know that William Shakespeare contributed about 1700 words to what we now call the English language?

Some of them are:

dead as a doornail

fair play

all of a sudden

in a pickle

night owl

wear your heart on your sleeve

star-crossed lovers

off with his head

green-eyed monster .

Which word would you contribute to the English language if you had a chance?
