  • Longing for a nice tropical break - we decided to take a trip to the enchanting Andamans and before we knew it we were on a plane from Delhi to Port Blair (which is the nearest airport)
✨
We did a quick guided tour of “Kaala Paani” in port Blair. Also known as the Cellular jail, this was where the British prisoned the Indian freedom fighters and while the structure was exemplary, it was overshadowed by screams of the past.
✨
After our tour of the Cellular Jail, we headed straight to catch our ferry to the remote Havelock island. The ferry takes approximately 90 minutes. It costs about 2000 per person one way for the Private Ferry Makruzz and only runs twice a day.
✨
Havelock Island exemplifies paradise on earth. The clear blue sea water, miles of white sand beaches, beautiful palm trees, dense mangrove forests, coral reefs and exotic resorts will keep you in awe of this place. Words can just not do justice to Havelock islands. You can go for ferry rides, banana boat rides, glass bottom boating and if you are more on adventurous side you can opt for scuba diving, snorkeling or any other water sports too.
✨
One thing we knew for sure - we would definitely go Scuba diving in Havelock and which is why for the first two nights of our stay we made the Barefoot Scuba resort at Govind Nagar Beach our home. It cost us 5200 INR to stay at the tented accommodation for the first night and 8200 INR for the Deluxe AC cottage overlooking the beach for the second night. Both nights we were very comfortable at the Scuba Resort and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
✨
Traveler tip: There’s a scooty rental shop right outside Barefoot Scuba and we rented a scooty for two days at 750 INR per day and it was worth it!

  • Havelock Island Traveler Information:
✨
So going to Havelock, you’ll have to be prepared with quite a bit of things. Even though Havelock has really come up on the tourism scene in the last 2-3 years, it is still not a full fledged touristy place and thankfully so!!! This helps keeping the place accessible to people who only want to enjoy the beauty of the place and the peace and quiet that comes with it.
✨
You won’t find plethora of cafes or restaurants or bars, but only a few of them. One for example which we enjoyed the most was “@something.different.andamans” cafe. It’s located towards the beginning of the Govindnagar beach and overlooks the Beautiful Andaman sea. It was probably the best eatery around along with the Full Moon cafe. It had a nice setting, a great menu and one of the only few cafes/ restaurants overlooking the beach in Havelock. Full moon cafe on the other hand had an awesome cozy vibe to it and that’s where we went for dinner on both the nights we stayed at Barefoot Scuba.
✨
Another thing to keep in mind is, alcohol is an issue at Havelock as the only road in Havelock is a state highway. Due to certain issues, a lot of places serve alcohol on and off and there are only a handful of them that do and that to only if their license gets renewed. There is no liquor shop on the island so we’d recommend carrying some with you in the flight and ferry in case you don’t want to be disappointed. FYI: The five star resorts at Radhanagar Beach serve alcohol without an issue.
✨
Another thing to keep in mind is that even though Andamans follow the Indian Standard Time but due to being located Far East is the country lines, sun rises pretty early around 4:30-5 and it gets dark around 5:30 in summers 😱! So when in Havelock, you would need to plan your days accordingly and early in the day!
✨
Carry cash for majority of your transactions as the credit card machine doesn’t work much.

  • Hey you!!! Welcome to Havelock Island, Andamans 🌴
✨
What can we say about this beautiful and stunning island. Every word or praise written won’t do justice to the place and rightly so. You have to visit the place to experience the happiness it’ll give you. Now, it’s not for people looking to party, it’s for that time when you want to switch the outside world off and just recharge yourself.
✨
Havelock island belongs to the Ritchie’s Archipelago and is one of the largest islands in the Andamans. It’s known around the world for its pristine cotton sand beaches with blue waters second to none in the world. Havelock is also famous for being one of the top Scuba Diving learning centers in Asia.
✨
The best part about the islands.. one is totally disconnected from the outside world... No internet, limited phone signals and no TV in your room! Yes, time to discover yourself again!
✨
We’ll share about everything Havelock in our upcoming posts.. from how to reach, what to do, what to take care of et al.
✨
Till date out of all the trips we’ve taken (and we’ve taken A LOT), Havelock has been our best one yet. It was magical, surreal, crazy and something that brought us closer together- All together!

  • Time for Scubaaa dooba dooo!!!
✨
We got the details of the dive from the experts in our resort. Mr Stache was a bit nervous because he’s not a great swimmer and he was just recovering from a sinus infection but we were relieved to find out that you don’t need to have swimming skills for Scuba Diving.
✨
We booked a slot for early next morning and got into our Scuba Gears !!! ( featured on our stories and post)
✨
Our trainers were very experienced, patient and helpful to say the least. We got one on one training at the shore level for about 30 minutes or for as long as it takes you to feel confident! Finally we were all set to take the plunge.
✨
Stay tuned for our next post for more!!
✨
Tip:
Trainers at our resort suggested it might be cheaper for us to go to the government kiosk and request to be allocated a diver/trainer from this resort itself. He was indeed right - it was almost half the cost from the government center
