My story for @atmos’s second issue, entitled “Latitude”
5°13′32.5.″ N, 3°45′17.5″ W
More than a system for mapping the world, Latitude means "freedom of action or choice." Atmos Magazine asked 12 photographers from around the world to capture the meaning of Latitude in their culture, through the lens of fashion.
In keeping with the magazine’s mission, we were conscious of our environmental impact,
only local models & designers were used, with an eco-responsible vision.
Côte d'Ivoire's fascinating architecture almost always evokes a feeling of nostalgia for the past.
One of those places in particuliar is Grand-Bassam, the old French-colonial seaside town which was once the nation’s capital.
It is filled with interesting 19th and 20th-century architectural ruins; It embodies, on the one hand, colonial architecture and town planning, based on the principles of functionalism and adaptations to climatic conditions, and, on the other hand, a community of the N’zima people, which demonstrates the permanency of indigenous cultures.
For this shoot, I really wanted to emulate the atmosphere of traditional and modern culture which reigns heavily throughout Côte d'Ivoire.
When you appear before me
My heart stopped beating
Stars crossed the sky
To come see what I was seeing
You were the one
That made me believe I could fly
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Birds could not sing
A song that's as beautiful
I'd do anything
'Cause you are the sun
Painting my heart in the sky whoa-oh, oh
