“Firefall in Yosemite only happens when conditions are just perfect. This is real life magic, nature putting on a glorious light show. And God showing off. The light hits the entire wall and within a short while turns gold and focuses on the little horsetail waterfall. There are a few places and moments where I’ve discovered that magic happens in real life and, if I’m not looking for it, I can say with certainty I won’t find it. This is certainly one of them. The light of the setting sun turns the little waterfall into fire. . . . ”

El ejemplo de esto fue nuestro viaje a #Grecia 💙 pero hay muchísimos #lugares así, ¿con cuál te quedas? 🤔

  • First light at #alpinelake 7/7 on what’s looking like my final #larchmarch of 2019. It’s a little surprising each lake in Washington named after these fleeting golden trees is rarely used. I hiked for 3 full days to spend 3 hrs of perfection with this one. It was worth every step. #pnw #larchmadness

  • Veliko Tarnovo, "City of Tsars" - originally settled in 4thC, home to the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1185 - - its Fortress compared to Rome and Constantinople - - before being conquered by the Ottomans in 1393 and burnt down, marking the fall of the Bulgarian Empire. It was Bulgaria's first capital in 1878 after liberation from 500 years of Ottoman rule, with help from Russia. Its people have sacrificed much especially in the many Balkan Wars and World War 1 since 1885. Today the proud city is a blend of Ottoman, Soviet, Bulgarian Communism, Orthodox and everything else since its 1989 democracy - with great food, architecture and public art. Really a very interesting city to visit. @andrewjkruger46 #visitvelikotarnavo #visitbulgaria #aroundtheworldpix

  • The Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party (Buzludzha Monument) commemorates the events of 1891, when a group of socialists met and later founded the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, later the Bulgarian Communist Party. Construction began in 1974, it opened in 1981 and has been abandoned since 1989. A little bit of Brutalist / Futuristic architecture reboot for us. @andrewjkruger46 #visitbulgaria #Buzludzha #aroundtheworldpix

  • Another Fortress for the community to take refuge from all those invaders - 14thC Saxons rebelling against Hungarians, 15thC hiding from Ottomans, 17thC fearing Hapsburg armies, 18thC isolating from The Plague, and then those Ottomans again. Abandoned in 1790 following severe storm damage. Believed to be Romania's oldest archaeological site, human settlement is dated from Paleolithic/Neolithic period (3500-550BC). Restoration efforts are 'under way'. Huge job, massive history, great visit. @andrewjkruger46. #cetatearupea #visitromania #aroundtheworldpix
