Björk V Death Cab for Cutie - “All is Full of Love”
Björk - polarizing because she is always shifting. Sometimes album to album she is unrecognizable sonically - hell, even visually when it comes to promotion photos and music videos. She is an artist that bends every definition of the word to whatever she deems fit. Homogenic is her third album - released in 1997, it is heavily atmospheric, leaning on stringed instruments, electronic sounds and samples and sweeping orchestral arrangements. It is easy to close your eyes and imagine the Icelandic landscapes that she calls home while listening to the entirety of the album. “All is Full of Love” is one of the more accessible songs on the album. The version released on the album is more freeform than the version I included in the clip...more a meditation on love than a song. The version I included was part of her greatest hits album and the mix included in the music video. Probably my favorite music video, it is worth looking up if you’ve never seen it. The song itself is extremely sensual and still a hypnotic version of love - like the album mix. It’s been covered countless time but I’ve chosen the Death Cab for Cutie cover in this post. The instrumentation is more traditional but those drums. Michael Schorr is the drummer that recorded on their Stability EP (his last recording with the band) and his take on the song is an absolute departure from the original. It’s urgent, breakneck - bouncy. Engaging. Wide awake. Repeat listens allow you to appreciate how each section is unique.
Björk has the advantage in that she wrote this beautiful song and I prefer her measured, intimate take.
Also included is a live version she performed of the song.
Twist your head around, it’s all around you. #songaday#song112of365#112of365#music#songappreciation#listentothis#andthis#allisfulloflove#bjork#homogenic#icelandicmusic#electronica#electronicmusic#triphop#artpop#artmusic#art#90smusic#deathcabforcutie#stabilityep#cover#coversong#livemusic#alternativemusic#indierock
YO IS THIS REAL???? I'M BACK GUYS! I know it's been almost a year, but I'm finally back! I'm so happy to be able to come back on social media to express some awesome things about myself! But for my return, things are going to be a little different. For one, I'm not going to be posting everyday. I know this may seem bad, but I don't want social media to feel like boring work, which is why I left it to begin with. Second, my content will now have more variety! Get ready to know more about me rather than my drawings all the time haha! So this means more smash bros content, more posts about my life, and more meaningful posts in general! I hope you all had an amazing day, and I'm looking forward to do many things in the future!
Here with Tuesday's behind the scenes production post for all to see. The first is an update on the Manifeco/Sailor Moon inspired piece which has been fully drawn out, inked, and will be fully colored and enhanced in the near future. The next two and final for today are updates on the latest cartoon pieces which are nearly completed with the effects stage. If you enjoyed today's content don't forget to leave a like or a comment and tune in for more animated goodness.
