Ask for my father And they will tell you That he is a peasant Friend of the sun Find my father and tell him I'm fine That my conscience remains free And my thoughts are still very meek Tell him I miss the crops The rumor of the forest and the grass Fresh fruits and summer nap (Leon Gieco)
Combining many disparate parts, she creates surreal narrative vignettes with anachronistic elements in brushy and deliberate oil paint. She uses repeating motifs to symbolize contrasting dichotomies such as connection and isolation, decay and growth, life and death.

From January 4, 1966, On Kawara made a long serie of "Date paintings", which consist entirely of the date on which the painting was executed in simple white lettering set against a solid background. The idea was to create an immaterial artwork by allowing the viewer to see personal memories.
Artist SOUAD MARDAM BEY (1964)
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas
Zamalek Art Gallery is thrilled to present the latest body of work by Souad Mardam Bey, a collection of paintings titled “?” “?” Is perhaps the most apt name of Mardam Bey’s latest exhibition, a study in the concept behind beliefs and the process of believing.
Souad Mardam Bey presents us with her signature style but with a twist: an interlacing of line and elements that are rife with textures. Her paintings boast of intricate storytelling that appears as though we are watching tales from an ancient world. “?” Is inspired by an excerpt from David Foster Wallace’s “This is water”, specifically a story of two men- a believer and a non-believer, who question the power of prayer and whether it actually saved one of them from a blizzard, or if it were just a group of eskimos who found him. Were eskimos brought on by the man’s calling to God or was it a coincidence? Both men have their stances, and their story make us question ours.
Souad Mardam Bey questions the certainty of belief by presenting us with moments from history, religions, folklore and even modern day that allow us to challenge what we have always assumed to be the truth.
Standing before each painting, we are met with beauty of execution, mastery of texture and line, and a query into convictions we assumed are true. “?” is an unmissable exhibition and an excellent start to the New Year. @souadmardambey
An exhibition not to be missed.

The aim of the experiment presented here in a sculpture is to bleach the black flag. It knows or can be washed clean - in a figurative sense maybe also to defeat the evil itself. Designed as an experimental set-up, the outcome of this process is uncertain. If you add too much bleach, you run the risk of the fabric losing its strength and tearing. Too little bleach may not change anything at all. A small gesture that turns the positive from one moment to the next - and vice versa. Patrizia Keller

🌜🪐💫“At the root of all power and motion, there is music and rhythm, the play of patterned frequencies against the matrix of time. We know that every particle in the physical universe takes its characteristics from the pitch and pattern and overtones of its particular frequencies, its singing. Before we make music, music makes us." ~Joachim-Ernst Berendt

😳🤩🧐From Ancient Greek: κῦμα, , meaning "wave", Cymatics is a subset of modal vibrational phenomena. The study of visible sound and vibration. In 'Cymatics: The Study of Wave Phenomena' Hans Jenny concluded, “This is not an unregulated chaos; it is a dynamic but ordered pattern." The multiple forms of geometry, symmetry and beauty that emerge through resonance in various mediums, allows us to ponder the nature of sound, vibration, form and many more questions. 🧿🎶🧿 #cymatics

👀 at these mesmerizing macro photos of glitter vibrating in motion over the surface of water.
I see it in a painterly way, almost like natural brushstrokes, provoked by the hand of sound vibration. #amazeballs#lifefullofwonders ✨ #cymatics
