Facing directly from West to East, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent the Pharaoh Khafre. Cut from the bedrock, the original shape of the Sphinx has been restored with layers of blocks. It measures 73 metres (240 ft) long from paw to tail, 20.21 m (66.31 ft) high from the base to the top of the head and 19 metres (62 ft) wide at its rear haunches. Created in 1940, this stunning shin-hanga print depicts Mount Fuji from Tago Bay, on a sunny evening with clear blue skies. Mount Fuji is framed by the trees in the foreground, meanwhile in the middle ground a farmer and his horse transport hay. 
Here we see splendid realism and modernity coupled with traditional themes and subjects - a combination with strong appeal to the mostly U.S and European shin-hanga market. 
The artist Kawase studied ukiyo-e and Japanese style painting at the studio of Kiyokata Kaburagi (1878-1972). He mainly concentrated on making watercolors of actors, everyday life and landscapes, many of them published as illustrations in books and magazines in the last few years of the Meiji period and early Taishō period.
During the forty years of his artistic career, Hasui worked closely with Shōzaburō Watanabe (1885-1962), publisher and advocate of the shin-hanga movement.
His works became widely known in the West through American connoisseur Robert O. Muller (1911–2003).

Born in 1890 to a station master for a father, Schiele grew up around the railway and locomotives, which became an early influence on his passion for art. As a young boy, he was fascinated by trains and would spend many hours drawing them. He was so absorbed in his sketching that his father, frustrated that his son wasn't interested in pursuing the same career path, ended up destroying his sketchbooks. When his father died, Schiele was 15 and he was taken in by his maternal uncle who also worked on the railways. Luckily his uncle recognized Schiele’s skills and begrudgingly let him pursue his artistic talents.

★★———關於畫

畫中少女回眸的霎那,明亮的眼睛凝視著我們,就像初次見面,疑惑的眼神、半開的嘴唇,似乎想說些什麼,卻欲言又止的瞬間凝成了永恆,留給我們多少的想像。

戴珍珠耳環的少女是維梅爾有名的作品之一,也喻為「北方的蒙娜麗莎」,或「荷蘭的蒙娜麗莎」。兩者的不同在於蒙娜麗莎迷人的是那神秘的一抹微笑,而戴珍珠耳環的少女令人駐足的,則是她的明亮深邃的眼神。還有另一個不同在於,蒙娜麗莎是傳統意義上的肖像畫(Portait),而戴珍珠耳環的少女是一幅臉部特寫(Tronie)。

肖像畫(Portait)會交代被畫者的身分,有的會直接題上姓名,有的為以國旗、家徽、背景、服裝飾品或其他物件來補充。白話點有點類似定裝照,會呈現主角的身分地位、背景、職業...。

而臉部特寫畫(Tronie)姓名背景則不是重點,場景多是深色,強調的是臉上細膩的肌肉變化及情感流露的感覺。
白話一點就是我們現在流行的大頭照而且是臉部HD畫面XD。

會產生這樣的差異,是因為政治及經濟的因素,16~17世紀的歐洲,藝術不再是只有鉅富才訂得起的奢侈品,一般民眾偶爾也會買或訂製一些畫作在自家觀賞,不再只針對富豪的需求,彰顯身分地位去呈現畫作內容。

畫作中的主角衣著樣式,是當時荷蘭的勞動者的裝扮。極淡的眉毛顯示少女並未刻意裝扮自己,藉由一些線索,可以推斷她所配戴的大尺寸珍珠耳環,可能並不屬於她。(也有藝術史家表示那可能不是珍珠而只是金屬製的球面耳環)

戴珍珠耳環的少女,她的身分一直是藝術史上熱論的話題。這幅畫也是維梅爾少數主角望著畫作(畫家)的作品,
和其他不經意看向畫家身後的狀態不同,少女是很明確與觀者互相凝視的狀態,在微張的唇,及深邃的眼神上,維梅爾運用精準的光點。讓少女的神情,就像欲言又止一般,加上近乎黑色的背景,使她猶如黑暗中的一盞明燈,光彩奪目。讓視覺上顯得更加聚焦,尤其奢侈地運用昂貴顏料和耳環妝點女孩,也明顯地流露出維梅爾希望這幅Tronie能呈現得更加完美。很多人都揣測,維梅爾是存著「在意少女的想法」而畫出這幅畫作的。近年的研究中,多數的推測也都是指向兩人之間是存有某種感情的。
可能是維梅爾的長女或友人的女兒,也或許是小說家翠西(Tracy Chevalier)同名小說裡維梅爾家中有著藝術才華的年輕幫傭,甚至只是維梅爾幻想出的理想女孩。

    和其他不經意看向畫家身後的狀態不同,少女是很明確與觀者互相凝視的狀態,在微張的唇,及深邃的眼神上,維梅爾運用精準的光點。讓少女的神情,就像欲言又止一般,加上近乎黑色的背景,使她猶如黑暗中的一盞明燈,光彩奪目。讓視覺上顯得更加聚焦,尤其奢侈地運用昂貴顏料和耳環妝點女孩,也明顯地流露出維梅爾希望這幅Tronie能呈現得更加完美。很多人都揣測,維梅爾是存著「在意少女的想法」而畫出這幅畫作的。近年的研究中,多數的推測也都是指向兩人之間是存有某種感情的。
    可能是維梅爾的長女或友人的女兒,也或許是小說家翠西(Tracy Chevalier)同名小說裡維梅爾家中有著藝術才華的年輕幫傭,甚至只是維梅爾幻想出的理想女孩。
