Ma Katyayani is worshipped on the 6th day of Navratri as the destroyer of evil. She has 4
Hands, one holds a sword, one a lotus, one blesses, and one protects.
According to legend, there was a sage called Kat with a son called Katya. Katya had a son called Katyayan, and Katyayan had no children. He observed strict penance and worshipped the
gods for a child.
The gods were having their own problems with Mahishasura, so they approached Vishnu for a solution. Vishnu paired with Shiva and Brahma to form the Trinity and took the form of Katyayani.
Ma Katyayani was thus a fighter. She had 3 eyes, 18 hands and was as powerful as a 1000 suns. The gods gave her several weapons- a trident, Sudarshana Chakra, Shankha, a dart, a bow, a quiver, a thunderbolt, a mace, a rosary, a water pot, a sword, a shield and a battle axe. Her vehicle came to be, a lion.
Thus armed, Ma Katyayani proceeded towards Vindhya mountains where Mahishasura lived. A fierce battle took place where she defeated him and cut off his head with a sword. This slaying of Mahishasura is celebrated as Durga Puja in many parts of India. Ma is also named as Mahishasuramardini, the one who killed Mahishasura.
According to Bhagavata Purana, the young marriageable girls in Gokula worshipped Ma Katyayani to get Krishna as their husband. They made her idol and worshipped it. In Tamil Nadu, Devi Kanya Kumari, the virgin goddess is said to be an avatar of Ma Katyayani. She is worshipped during Pongal which coincides with Makar Sankranti.

Dhwani flea was one hell of an experience. As first timers in the field, to us, it's essentially all the lessons we got more than our sales. From setting up to talking to people. We learned a lot of stuff. To see and meet a lot of similar initiatives made us more determined that ever .
We have a number of posters from the Flea left and everything is on sale. You can check out our website or DM us.
For dhwani, the turn out was amazing considering the heating Sun and I'm eternally grateful to all our friends who came around and helped us with the stall in the heat and also giving up on something from their last dhwani to help us out.

I had been visualising this painting in my head for a couple of days now. It became quite an obsession but I had to wait till I got the paints I ordered from @creativehandsartmaterials to be delivered. I could not paint in the weekend, and hence, I decided to bunk work and indulge in my creative impulses! That's a 5 hour straight impulse! Now my neck is hurting😑
Derivan Liquid Pencil is an innovative new product that allows you to create authentic graphite pencil effects and pencil sketches using a liquid.
It has been formulated to be easily thinned with water. Applied with a brush, nib, or other art tools. With a creamy consistency, and a different rheology (flow of liquid matter), artists now have a wider scope for creating sketches.
As with all creative undertaking, experimentation is recommended as there are no precise 'fool proof' method to achieve exact variety of tones.
Early morning pattachitra with photo colours -Kirtimukha ( translating to "glorious face") is the name of a swallowing fierce monster face with huge fangs, and gaping mouth, very common in the iconography of Hindu temple architecture and Buddhist architecture in South Asia and Southeast Asia. In Southeast Asia it is often referred to as Kala, and in China it is known as the taotie, meaning (Monster of Greed). There is a story behind this in Hindu Mythology. A powerful asura king called Jalandara had a desire. He wanted to possess Parvati, the consort of Shiva.
The furious Shiva created a terrible being from his third eye. The terrible being had a face of a lion, a protruding tongue, eyes burning with fire, raised hair and roared like a lion.
This terrible being had a great desire to consume everything. It chased Jalandara to consume him. The terrified Jalandara ran to Shiva and begged for protection. Shiva dissuaded the terrible being from consuming Jalandara.
Now the terrible being complained to Shiva of his intense hunger.
Shiva ordered the being to consume its own flesh. The terrible being obeyed Shiva’s order and consumed itself until its head.
I am Younus Farhaan, I am a Cloud Photographer. Cloud photography has been my passion since past 10 years. I have always been in awe of clouds and their otherworldly presence. It took me back to my childhood where we used to look into clouds and imagine things we really wanted to see sometimes manifest our own imaginations through them. I always believed that these clouds carried divine messages which we sometimes forget to notice. Time and again I was blessed to have been at right time and right place to look up to the clouds and capture some beautiful Cloud formations. I hope this journey Upon Cloud Nine will bring out the inner child in you and experience same delight that I experienced while capturing them.
