  • Unless you’re living under a rock I’m sure you’ve already heard that’s it’s the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing today. For me, I don’t look at this occasion as a time to be proud at the past, but as a time to be ashamed about the progress we have made since. To rub salt in the wound NASA always comes out with a new statement saying “we’re going back in (current date)+10 years!” To get everyone excited, but deep down we all know it is not going to happen. So here’s an image to help remind you of a time where we used to dream and explore. A time when we used to go to places no man had gone before.

  • The Rho Ophiuchi nebula complex is a beautiful, gigantic cloud of colorful cosmic dust and gas located 460 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus.
The cloud complex gets its name from Rho Ophiuchi, embedded in a dust cloud with light that produces a blue reflection nebula. At the top is a bright red supergiant star Antares bathed in gold light. “Antares” is a Greek combination of “anti” and “Ares” — literally, the “rival of Mars”. Antares is bathed by a very rare and beautiful yellow reflection nebula. To the left of Antares is the Sagittarius Cluster, also known as M4.
This is a two-frame mosaic taken in Gardner Colorado with a Takahashi FSQ-106 telescope and an SBIG STL/11000 camera. www.MillerAstroPix.com

  • "Lunar Generations." This is MBO member and Astrophotography Group leader @neilsnightsky winning entry in the David Malin national astrophotography awards. The theme category was "Memories of Apollo." Neil said this photo "portrays the generation who landed on the Moon passing it down to the generation who will return. This photo means a lot to me as it features my father Ken and my niece Amy. "
David Malin had this to say about the photo: "it is the simplicity and sincerity in this image that shines out, appearing to pass the message of Apollo 11 from the generation that went to the Moon to a representative of the generation that may yet return there. This is both beautifully lit and perfectly composed." Congratulations, Neil!

  • It's been cloudy for weeks, so I've been reworking my old images. I reprocessed my Pacman Nebula from last year. The first version had ringing on the stars in the nebula and I wasn't happy with the color. I shot it from my yard on the outskirts of crowders mountain state park.
Integration times per channel:
Ha 17x300"
OIII 20x300"
SII 18x300"
4.58 hours

Equipment used:
Camera: QHY163M, QHY 7 Position Wheel, Optolong Ha, OIII, SII 6.5nm
Autoguider: SSAG w/ 60mm Guide Scope
OTA: Orion 8” f/3.9
Mount: Atlas EQ-G
Software: SGP, PHD2, Pixinsight ——————————————————— #astrophotography, #astrophoto, #astronomy, #stars, #space, #outerspace, #deepspace, #deepsky, #NGC281, #IC11, #Sh2184, #nebula #oriontelescopes

  • Did you know that Neil Armstrong's "one small step for man" wasn't small at all?? He had to drop about 3 1/2 feet from the foot of the Eagle's ladder to the surface.

  • "When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty." - John Muir

The tail of Milky Way as seen from Garibas, a remote village near Tonglu, which one will come across while trekking to Sandakphu. Didn't get much time to frame and compose as the hotel owner kept on threatening me that she will close the door if I don't go back to my room because it was extremely cold outside and oxygen level was also low
