  • Hawthorn House by @editionoffice uses restraint when it comes to the material used, where they believe "strengthens rather than smothers the experiential quality of the project." Concrete and timber give texture, and large expanses of glass provide connection. The formwork boards used on the concrete pavilions were cleaned after use and reused as the fencing giving the entire site the same language and texture as the pavilions. Are these goals or what?⠀

  • Hawthorn House by @editionoffice is defined by a pair of concrete shells, that link together by a walkway and courtyard garden. Edition Office wanted to provide a sense of retreat, where refuge and openness are balanced and considered. The shells respond to this, where the private spaces such as bathing and sleeping, are on the first floor, almost hidden behind the solid skin. It isn't until you're upstairs you see the full-height and private courtyards.⠀
⠀
On the ground floor, the concrete shells are pulled up, creating arches, that connects you to the entire landscape.⠀
⠀
Okay, let's be honest, who else is wanting a concrete home now?⠀

  • Crows Nest Terrace
Extension to the rear of the site & First floor addition
The site is located within an established low density residential precinct of Crows Nest NSW, which is predominantly characterised by single and two storey dwellings and studio apartments.
The addition enhanced the living environment and the development has been designed to effectively integrate with the built form in the street.

The upper level addition is modest in scale and includes a high level of architectural treatment to achieve proportion and 'fit' between levels.

  • Lucky enough to get an invite to the launch of this book #AustraliaModern on Friday, with exhibition at the #melbourneschoolofdesign - an overview of #Modernism in Australia 1925-75 by highlighting 100 places - a project centred in Melbs but Philip and Julie have nobly gone out to ensure the whole country is covered, but of course we have some of the best (ok, NSW and WA took up #Brutalism with more gusto, and Queensland embraced colour and decoration more than us sober Victorians). Loads of great photographs, some original, many newly commissioned ones too. And there’s plenty of stuff I’ve never seen before eg last pic which was the entry to #LucasHeights, now gone. Cover pic us the 1956 #SydneyAncher house in Cremorne Point. Exhibition on till 22 Aug, book it seems not actually in the shops yet, labelled as ‘coming soon’ on @thamesandhudsonau website, maybe Monday ? Nice to meet @modernistermister and @ausmodern after many years and @francesburkemidcmodern too !

  • “An absolute breeze” ☁️
A fitting phrase to describe this space*, speaking to the simplicity and implied ease of the interiors, that are complete with our SESAME flooring paving the way in herringbone style. *Featured space: Sean Fennesy's home

  • The polite exterior of a Melbourne terrace house conceals the richness of the life behind. ✨ An adaptation of the British model, the ability for the terrace house to absorb the idiosyncratic style of its owners shows the resilience of the type. 👌 Art House by @winwood.mckenzie, 📸 by @seanfennessy Take the rest of the house tour by going over to our blog now! • There’s some age between these two: a feature screening made of rusty old roofing sheets, paired with a railway sleeper bench. 👌🏻 Together, they bring nothing but character to our project, "Sunshine."

  • Nestled within swaths of Moonah and tea tree is a new home designed by @lovell_burton Architecture for a professional couple seeking a seaside retreat in the coastal town of Barwon Heads. 🌿

The form, orientation and materials of the dwelling respond to the extreme coastal conditions that define the site, while the home has also been designed to seamlessly open, close, expand and contract to meet the fluctuating needs of the family.
