  • The Telegraph Station was constructed of local stone with lime mortar. The roof was thatch which was later replaced with galvanised iron. Originally open 24 hours a day, this crucial infrastructure was manned by a stationmaster, 4 linesmen, a teacher/governess, a cook and a stockman/blacksmith. Supplies from the south came only once a year and at times not even then. Self sufficiency was crucial to survival.
Around 1963 the site was gazetted as an historical reserve.
