  • Located on south eastern slope of Bali’s highest point, Mount Agung, the Tirta Gangga palace is one of unbeatable spots around the island. It was built in 1946 during Karangasem kingdom and its main features are carps fishes, ornate statues and astonishing gardens 🍃🦐🍃 Ph: @lorenzowanderlust #TirtaGangga #Bali #Indonesia

  • While Tulum is full of trendy cafes, health food restaurants, and Insta-worthy locations like this one, it's also got a dark side that's often ignored. So in an effort to keep it real, we’re going to talk about that. We stopped there for a few days recently and while we liked certain things about the town, the beach area covered in seaweed was an absolute shocker! It’s also the only place we’ve been in Mexico where we were offered all sorts of drugs out in the open repeatedly.
▾
From a recent article in New York Mag: “In barely more than a decade, Tulum transformed from a backpacker’s beach into the next stop after Ibiza on the global DJ party circuit. It now has 40,000 residents, with 200,000 expected by 2030, and the town hasn’t been able to keep up with the arrival of wealthy jet-setters and the people who follow them on social media. There is no electricity on the beach, so diesel generators groan all day and night to run the air conditioners that customers demand.
▾
The beach has no adequate sewer system, and waste has been leaching into the water supply beneath Tulum and out to the ocean, killing the coral reef. Tulum’s old landfill, a few miles outside of town, is full, and last summer it burned in the heat for three months straight. The new dump was supposed to last five years but was already overflowing after 18 months.”
▾
And that’s just the start of it. Hate to break it to you but many so called “eco-friendly” places are just marketing tactics. There’s nothing sustainable about them. The EDM culture brings drugs and cartels into local communities to keep up with demand. (Link to the article is in our bio). It’s a tragic tale of “eco-chic” mass tourism gone very wrong...

  • Midnight above the Arctic Circle. For the last week in Lofoten we’ve been sleeping during the day and hiking during the night. This night we hiked to Reinebringen. The iconic view from the ridge is something else. Swipe to see it!🙈

We got here early (6am ish,) but still had to wait an hour and half for these shots. Yes, there is actually a line to take pics, 😧 But it’s Soo worth the wait. Had fun taking these pics. Gave Hubby a beat down. 😂😂😂

.
🇬🇧 On the Gili Islands it is not uncommon to see people who, while the sun is setting, take advantage of the low tide to collect crustaceans and other beasts of unclear identity. .
Parents with children (and sometimes even grandparents) get together for the gathering, and seeing these families who spend their time so relaxed, being together, has filled our hearts with joy.

  • Places like this make me fall in love with England ❤ I just wish there were forests like this closer to my hometown. However, I will be leaving England tomorrow for somewhere more exotic 😁 So at the moment I'm busy packing and trying to fit two and a half weeks worth of clothes into one smallish backpack 😂

🇺🇸 Ritual of Los Voladores
This ritual is inscribed in the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Five men climb on a small platform at the top of a mat of about thirty meters. Attached at the end of a rope, four of them let go in the void and describe circles bigger and bigger as they go down. Meanwhile, the 5th man stays on the platform and plays music for the sun. This ritual, originally from Veracruz, would be a fertility dance dedicated to sun and wind. Each bird-man realizes 13 circles which makes 52 circles (4x13). Among the Maya, the number 52 is a symbol of a cycle. 😊
