Well here it is folks. I put everything I have into this drawing and I’m so happy to finally be finished. This is the best I can possibly do with a ballpoint pen. Any hyperrealistic artist will tell you that an eraser is your best friend - not only for fixing mistakes but also for bringing out highlights. Pores and skin textures are a serious chore with pen- not to mention the white hair! The 145 hours that this took to complete would have easily been half that with graphite or charcoal. But to me the challenge of ballpoint is what makes it special. I want to give a huge thanks to my friend @stevecaballero. Like most of you I grew up idolizing Cab. I was 13 years old when I saw Animal Chin and he has been a hero ever since. It’s incredibly surreal to call him my friend today 30 years later. Happy (late) Birthday Steve and thank you for being the raddest dude on the planet. So much love, respect, and gratitude to you my friend. 🙏🏼❤️ Thanks @kcarmstrong for the reference photo. I’m putting the ballpoint down for awhile now to focus on other mediums. ✌🏻
Photo by @kcarmstrong | Ballpoint drawing by me. Hyper realism isn’t for everyone, I totally get it. Curmudgeons (I won’t say haters) always say the same thing - “What’s the point? Art is supposed to be about self expression, all you’re doing is copying a photo.” I hear it over and over and it’s all good, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! To me art is about whatever makes you happy. No rules, just create. I love all types of art and realism isn’t the only thing I do or want to do. But as a very left brained person, realism is what comes naturally to me. I enjoy the challenge of trying to replicate a photo down to the most minute detail. I wish I could do what @bb_bastidas does! I can’t, my mind doesn’t work like that. But maybe with enough determination and perseverance I can take the ballpoint thing to new unseen heights? Shoot for the moon and even if you miss...something about landing amongst the stars 🤷🏻♂️. PS thanks @stevecaballero for lending me your beautiful mug. I now know every detail of your face. PPS - anyone know anyone at @bic_group ?
@woodbymohler sent these beauties to the Barnworks workshop this week. Don't even know where to start. The dyed black elder and the double dyed pink and blue curly maples are out of sight. But the green and blue dyed curly maples are trying to make a case to be turned first. What would you turn first?

Are you on any kind of detox? Detox from drugs to help you manage panic attacks and panic disorder are HELL. From cold sweats to shivers, shocks, nightmares and insomnia... among many. BUT, luckily since I have no substance abuse in my history, recovery is seemingly easier. Still, is very infernal. Drawing is always therapeutic and I'm finally able to get back in the groove, and had a nice time making this sketch with my new ballpoint pens!
If you're going through tough emotional and mental times, drawing and creating will be one of your best friends. Much love my tribe, keep it sexy, keep it rad.
It’s been while since I have gotten on here and introduced myself. My name is Brie. I’m a mom, wife and I love to draw. I was a high school art teacher for 9 years, before I had kids. I have journaled most of my life but after having kids I found myself wanting to document more with images and sketches. I have a mini canon ivy printer and for sketching I mainly use pocket and a6 size journals, ballpoint pen and watercolor. I am obsessed with nature and find such peace when I am outdoors. Thanks for being a part of this awesome community and a part of my journey!! .
My Dado and I went to the thrift store today(among a few places) and I found this vintage looking Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal. It looked like something ripped right out of my childhood and let me say that holding it made me feel more elation than what I've felt in seemingly forever. It really just clicked something in me and my heart is starting to warm up and be less stone cold. I'm sorry if I seem to fluctuate rapidly between being ok and not ok, but I'm going through a bit of a realization/transitional period in my life and it's hard to stay positive when you're drowning in despair. But for making me feel even the least bit better...thank you Pooh Bear.
