  • Box Jump
➡️Box jumps are an incredibly effective tool for developing explosive strength and jumping and landing techniques. Assuming they are performed correctly, box jumps potentiate the nervous system for gains in strength and size. However, they are far and away the most poorly applied tool used by many coaches.
➡️The key benefit of box jumps is to decrease joint stress while expressing power and practicing solid landing mechanics. With a reduced landing height compared to a vertical jump, a box jump has significantly less compressive stress and less shear stress at the knee compared to the broad jump.
➡️It is also easily scalable, allowing a gradual increase in box height and volume as an athlete’s performance improves, similar to increasing intensity and volume with weight training.
➡️Quality of these jumps is more important than quantity. Make sure your athletes maximize hip extension and land with perfect technique.
➡️The height of the box should be indicated by the highest height at which an athlete can land in the same position of his dip before the jump. We must especially avoid the hips flexion contest on landing. Landing on the box with your knees into your chest has nothing to do with an effective jump and doesn’t improve athletic qualities other than the ego(wich is not a athletic qualitie). The height of the box must represent the height of the jump and not the height at which an athlete can fold on itself to land at the top of the box.
