Ngl I’ve been feeling chubby af lately and I blame it all on bad food habits ( also the fact that my kitchen is under renovations so I can only have takeout is not helping). ⁣

Today tho, I woke up pretty damn lean ( also @slixaustraliaswimwear is flattering af) which motivated me to get back on the  right track to getting lean for my Europe trip!!! Wooohoooo⁣

So pretty much all I’m doing is adding sprints twice a week ( I’ve actually missed them) and am going to do my absolute best to keep cravings at a min even tho that time of month is coming... which is why I may or may not have just eaten a slice of cake and bowl of ice cream 😬😬😬⁣

  • LISTENING TO YOUR BODY🙄
So lately I’ve been hitting my weekly gym goals pretty steadily and have been really motivated to go. Today I was going to do some cardio however I have the WORST headache but at the same time i really want to go!! Although I know how important it is to listen to your body so I’m going to take today off... even though that means I won’t hit my gym goal this week 😡

I have to say tho, I’m really proud of my mindset lately! This has been a tough month yet I haven’t let excuses get in the way of my training 💪 Hopefully I’ll keep it up!

  • I've been thinking a lot about who I want to be, and even this account. I'm not really sure where things are going, but all I know is that I am going to work on being the best me possible. So far, I'd like to think that I've been smashing FIERCE. I've got 1 more resistance workout to go this week. I'm also probably going to step away from Instagram a little more. I want to experience life by being present, not by being glued to a screen.

1️⃣ Side lunges (both legs) to squat - this is a great mobility exercise from @obi_vincent that will boost your range of motion (ROM); it also gets the glutes activated and targets your adductors. I’ve raised myself on plates to get greater ROM but you don’t need to
2️⃣ Cross legged deadlift - works out your hamstrings! again, I’ve elevated myself on plates so I can go lower than I’d normally be able to, but you don’t have to use plates
3️⃣ Front foot elevated split squat - no need for a plate, but I’ve elevated my front foot to target my glutes and hamstrings more

  • Just casually stretching it out 🌸 I haven’t been working on my flexibility consistently for the last couple months and safe to say whatever I gained I’ve now lost 🙈 CONSISTENCY really is KEY when you’re trying to progress in anything. I’ve been on holiday so not been too bothered about training, but now I’m back home and ready to get back into my routine 👊🏼

Results won’t come over night this is 3 year progress from 2016, 2017 to now! When you start on your fitness journey whatever your goal is; it’s not about a quick fix it’s about investing in yourself and accepting that the road will be long, you’ll face obstacles - these are all learning curves that we learn from and build on to improve in all aspects of life! I see women/men who have such quick results and sometimes it gets me down to think why haven’t I had results as quick as that? But that’s cause we’re all unique and different! Don’t compare YOUR life to anyone else’s - what you see on here or learn of peoples journeys because that is unique to them and that is your power that your journey is unique to you and no one else can have that! Own your progress and enjoy every step of the way 😊😊

That's when you create healthy habits, when you start to crave movement, when you feel bomb walking outta the gym, when you get excited to try new things, when you feel STRONG and when yah forget about how long it might take- because now you've fallen in love with the process, and it's here to stay🌈

In general, compound exercises that include shoulder extension and/or adduction seem best for stimulating maximal latissimus dorsi. In Lehman’s terms, the lats appears to produce greatest muscle activity during any vertical pulling exercises such as pull-downs/pull-ups as well as during horizontal pulling exercises such as various row variations.

Deadlifts: Though not an essential exercise for back growth, Beggs et al (2011) showed that both a double overhand (pronated) or mixed (one hand pronated, one hand supinated) grip using heavier loads (80%1RM) displayed significantly superior lat activity than lighter loads (60%1RM). Therefore, if you opt to include deadlifts into your training program, heavier loads seem to be superior for overall stimulation vs lighter ones.

Lat pulldowns: Studies have concluded a pronated grip (Lusk et al 2009) brought to the front of the neck (not behind the neck) (Signorile et al 2002) using a “middle grip” of ~1.5 biacromial distance (Andersen et al  2014) be the most optimal in recruiting the lats during a lat pulldown. The addition of a close grip pulldown could also be an effective variation for increasing trap recruitment.

Fitness isn’t linear, there’s ups and downs and twists and turns, but all part of the process. I’ve been on this journey since 2016 and some days I still feel like the girl on the left: low self confidence, binge emotional eating and choosing to lay on the couch than going to the gym.

But the girl on the right.... changed one this about herself... HER MINDSET! Yes I still have major lows but then I’m there for M.Y.S.E.L.F. to bring me back up. Write down your positive affirmations, believe in yourself, do something for you that makes your heart feel full, invest in yourself and take the chance on YOU💕
