The Crafty Awards 2019 awards sponsored by @premierhop and @triplehopped, and more importantly voted for by YOU right here on Instagram, are in full effect. Counting down our favourite beers of the year.
As we steam into the Top 5 it’s worth reflecting on some of the amazing beers we’ve already had in this countdown and there’s still 4 more to go after this beauty. At number 5 we go back up to Newcastle and @wylam_brewery. It’s Greenbutt Skunk. Its 8.4% DIPA brewed with Galaxy, Nelson and Citra. It was outstanding. I loved this so much.....
......that I had to put my photo out there to accompany it. After all, I had to get one of my pictures in here somewhere. Allow me that! One of my beers of the year and was a shoe in for my Top 9 the minute I got that aroma from the cab when I cracked it.
....and 3 quotes from some of you who also voted for it....
The magnificently monikered @ronbeergundy thought the aroma of this was a lot better than Sex Panther by Odeon. He summed up what anyone who had this fresh thought “If there was an award for best smelling beer then this would be it....this is amazing”. He praised the taste too: “strong stone fruit flavours with a velvet smooth mouthfeel. Finishes slightly green and a little dry. I loved every drop!”
2️⃣ @brewbrouk “we have BOTY material!! Sweaty, sticky, dank just like a skunk should be.....green earthy sweet ganja, fresh pine needles with peppery hoppy bitter end. Excellent brew!”.
3️⃣ @hoptraders said that Wylam had “gone and thrown all the fuel into the engine and this beer is coming into the station at 200mph. Wow.....Bravo Wylam. Bravo 🔥 “.
So that leaves 4. The sharp end of the countdown continues as we get closer to crowning the champion. “What’s next” I hear you cry. There’s only one place to find out. Tune back in for number 4 tomorrow as the countdown continues.

Pero para eso falta así que mientras esperas pasa por el taproom que tenemos una alta pizarra
This is a gluten free double dry hopped ipa. Big hits of Citra, Simcoe and Azzaca hops. It pours a lightly hazy, pale yellow with almost no head. Big juicy aromas from the hops. It tastes refreshing, juicy, with low bitterness. It’s decent but not spectacular; I’d have it again though.
Can you smell this picture? :D While waiting for the fermentation to finish, I dream about hops and what variety to use for the upcoming dry hopping. In the picture: Spalter Select, Strisselspalter, Spalter Cascade and, how exciting, Citra! :D
So me and @hop_to_it_beer_club are posting a few beers in the run up to @knutsbeerfest - he’s going to be reviewing as he usually does, I’m going to be speaking about the brewery and why we’re going to be pouring their beer at the festival. Easy.

Silva Premium Blonde Lager (Heineken Romania)
Part of the new Silva production line, along the Strong Dark and the Romanian Pale Ale, this is probably the lowest scoring of them all. Pours clear yellow golden color, with a small, white, plain head. Sweet aroma of malt, grainy, grassy. Flavor is in the same notes (maybe some light herbal notes here and there), a medium sweetness is accompanied with a low bitterness. Finishes quickly, a little watery, aftertaste is not of a long duration.
Fresh Haul! Some crispy local suds comin at us from @threeweavers. With their Expatriate West Coast IPA. Inspired by the Three Weavers Community, their West Coast IPA is bright and laden with notes of tropical fruits. Brewed with 2-row barley and a touch of English crystal malt and loaded with New Age American hops, Expatriate is home no matter where you are.
Cheers 🤙🏼🍻 6.9% ABV
Alvarado, Mai Tai. Three time GABF medal winner, including gold in 2018! Our drier, decidedly “tropical” IPA that’s light on bitterness, but heavy on hop aroma, courtesy of 100% Mosaic hops. One whiff and you get super intense notes of passion fruit, mango, and lychee. Grain bill of just American two-row malt and a clean fermentation keep it simple and allow these hops to shine.
Alvarado, Amigos. Delorean, Lamborghini....and now Isuzu. Amigo that is, 1992 to be exact. The next in our unofficial "car" series is dedicated to brewer Kevin Brown's insanely radical ride. Elegant fermentation character, dank hops, heirloom floor malted British barley for body and balance.
Alvarado, F40. Juicy DDH DIPA with Mosaic & Idaho 7.
Alvarado, UnCrustable. Peanut Butter & Jelly inspired Kettle Sour Ale with Concord Grape, Peanut Flour & Milk Sugar.
Whispering the trees at night.
Afraid they are, the wind’s being cut.
Oh, a whistling thousand sharp
make the moon glow like some dazzling stars!
They’re meant not for them say relieved, the axe is for the enemy.
The dawn must come on viking’s path.
In the hills, the trees, they say farewell.
For some it will be the last track on Midgaard.
From now on all about’s cheating death.
Listen close to the squawking of Hugin and Munin,
while they fly, for those about to fight:
“Show your teeth, be ferocious, unleash all your fear.
Bloodhardened swords come along with Tyr’s might,
all which bring strength into battlefield”
And for those who will meet the spear in the heart,
rather an arrow or ax in the skull,
remember there is a great feast tonight,
where tales will be told and songs will be sung.
There, mead and ale, both are well served
from infinite barrels, on horns well-bone made.
Majestic and astounding the valkyries gather,
by their hand all our drinks are indeed all full-filled.
In the hall of the slain, glorious deaths are true-praised.
There, summoned the great by an Almighty God.
They’re placed at the table, all out of endeavor,
at the end Odin’s throne can never be gnawed.
He is to toast with the brave who shall live forever.
