Phew- I gotta say, this beach was beautiful and the entire hike there was filled with gorgeous coastline views, but man was I ready to be home. It was a strug•gle to get here because we chose not to pay for the illegal shuttles and cried a little inside every time one passed as we trudged along the dusty eroded farmland to reach this beach in an ancient volcanic cinder code. I don’t even know what that means but my internal science nerd was v excited to be there
Anyway the next time we have the privilege to visit Hawaii my booty is plopping into the sand and only getting up to swim in the ocean #beachbum and proud.
What’s your vacay vibe? Adventure or relaxation? Somebody tell my brain that mine is ready for less adventure and more chill time

Ah yes, those hard moments often come on like a surprise attack. I had one of those surprise attacks last week, whilst enjoying an idyllic moment. Let me set the scene for you:⠀
We were in Hawaii with a whole free day on our own. Bliss 🌺 We hiked up a volcano, channeling our inner Jurassic Park vibes. The views were incredible! Then we found a circle of food trucks by a beach. You with me yet? Because the fresh fish tacos were freaking amazing.⠀
Then a call from home broke the mood, or at least tried to as we learned of a metaphorical “kidney stone.” Luckily, I was with the husband who is so even-keeled I often feel the need to express extra emotion on his behalf as well, or at least make sure he still has a pulse. 😆 He calmly said that we would handle it at home...to which I asked him to hang on a sec while I tried let it go.⠀
So I tried and did succeed, but it was not easy. We spent the rest of the afternoon on a private beauty of a beach we came across and while he relaxed I mulled over the kidney stone. Finally, I heeded his advice and settled back into enjoying our spectacular gem of a day. I’m glad I did, because that incident is not how I want to remember that day. If that call had come in the drinking days, I would've grabbed the drinks menu at the Mai Tai food truck and begun the demise of a great day.⠀
When we got home yesterday, the kidney stone had already shrunk considerably as I came to terms once again with the knowledge that I cannot control what others think of me or say about me. I can, however, choose how to react and delay my response and give God some time to help me seek direction. Just another lesson learned on this #soberjourney . Accept the things you cannot change. Like those pesky kidney stones, they too shall P A S S. ⠀

A couple weeks before I got to the Big Island, I asked: “What can I bring to offer you in return for the healing you have given me?” A stone?
As the days passed and I still hadn’t received an answer. I got very silent and present with myself and asked again. With the picture of this island in my head, hearing the sound of the waves and feeling the sand between my fingers.
The answer I received was this... “Give me your grief. Your pain. Your anguish. Give me your anger and resentment.
I will transmute them into love. Only love.” And so it is.
Elusive little mongoose. 🌈 In one area we saw a group of birds making a ruckus, running along the ground, chasing a mongoose. Turns out, mongooses eat birds. And this particular bird group was letting him know they would have none of it. So they shamed him into submission, shouting obscenities, no doubt. Not surprisingly, he left them alone after that. xo 🌺
