One of my all time favourite birds. I remember seeing one of these for the first time when I was young at @wwtmartinmere and being struck by how exotic they looked. Leap forward 30 years and they became one of the highlights of a trip to the Peak District as my son saw them for the first time.
Today we found a couple of males at Golden Acre Park
The Ocellated Antbird, the best follower in the forest, antbirds are an amazingly interesting groups of birds that technically have a parasitic relationship with army ants, following them as they kick up prey items on their raids. This species is the Cadillac of the group, beautiful plumage, intricate behavior, and willing to go into the heart of the swarm with grace and elegance. Edwin O. Willis published the best account for this species, with amazing illustrations about their behavior check it out to learn more about this species, I linked it in my story.
