BIRTHFIT uses development movements and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) principles through Functional Progressions. 
The Functional Progression movements were developed based on the idea that our muscles form in a very natural way during your first year of life but bad habits in movement (or lack thereof) can lead to compensation, poor movement patterns and pain as an adult.

All of the movements are used to develop the core and should be performed with intention to improve stability.  The exercises should be performed knowing that #slowisfast, transitions are just as improvement as each movement itself and quality is more important that quantity!

It’s not a rush to get your pre-baby body back, because your body will never be the same after having a baby, and that’s not a bad thing.

It’s not a push your body to the limits to shed extra weight exercise routine because, in fact, those extra pounds are there purposely. And, thankfully, our bodies instinctually know exactly what to do and when to do it to grow your beautiful new baby.

BIRTHFIT is not a competition with other moms in the group to see who can lose the most weight, do the most reps, have the cutest baby, or any other way we may compare ourselves.
*
It’s not even an “exercise class” per se... so what’s the point?
*
BIRTHFIT IS a safe space to connect with other mommies who are in the trenches with you. It is unconditional, nonjudgmental, “OMG you too?” discussion designed to empower you as a new or repeat mommy.
*
It’s reconnecting with your body after 40 (give or take) weeks of constant change and relearning (and establishing in some cases) mind-body connection.
*
It’s laying down foundational and functional movement. There’s a big difference in moving and moving well.
*
BIRTHFIT has a saying that “slow is fast”, which is something I’ll need constant reminding of on this postpartum journey I’m going on for the second time. The easy thing to do would be to numb out and crush it at the gym to try to hurry my body into whatever unrealistic expectation I’ve placed on it.  Allow yourself to let go, trust the process, and move your recovering body intentionally and safely. Really interesting/important information that I learned from #birthfitprofessional @cdwiener about #cesarean procedures: most OBs don’t stitch the peritoneum (they aren’t trained to do so and do not have an evidence based reason to do it; it also takes longer in the OR, limiting access for others). It’s intriguing and certainly something I hope gets a bit more research. Abdominal fascia (the third layer in the video) regains its original tensile strength following abdominal surgery at the following rates: ○ 51-59%: 42 days postpartum ○ 70-89%: 120 days postpartum (4 months) ○ 73-93%: 140 days postpartum (4.5 months)

So many layers are affected.  Give yourself time, space and rest to heal. 💚
