𝐖𝐁𝐁: So, why start a greeting card company? •
•
𝐏𝐇: We really wanted to fill a void, it was just that simple. We felt there weren’t any greeting cards available that reflected our children. We saw a problem and decided to do something about it. Therefore, we created high-quality, fun and stylish products that mirror the beautiful hues of our little ones. •
•
𝐖𝐁𝐁: That’s amazing and I’m sure not without challenges. Have you had any? •
•
𝐏𝐇: Well we are still working our full time jobs. Taking time to put everything we have into the business along with managing households can be a tall order, but we’re up for the task. We are surrounded by so much love and support that we’ve almost forgotten the sleepless nights. However, as business owners we do expect some bumps in the road. But, we are up for the challenge, we’re in this for the long haul. •

𝐖𝐁𝐁: What has made your hearts smile the most throughout your entrepreneurial journey? •
•
𝐏𝐇: Wow! That’s an easy answer. The overwhelming love we have received from customers. The happy smiles, the excitement from little girls and boys saying, "this card looks like me.” moms saying, "Finally!, A card for my little one.” Just being able to bring joy to so many families is extremely rewarding. •
•
𝐖𝐁𝐁: What’s next for Perfectly Hued? I’m sure you have goals set. •
•
𝐏𝐇: Our two main goals are to create beautiful greeting cards and have a financially thriving business. However, when we think about the end goal and the motivation behind the brand, one more distinct goal surfaces. That is having every Black child realize the skin they’re in is PERFECT! It’s Perfectly Hued to be exact! We know, that sounds cliché, But being able to fill a void of something that’s missing in our community is what keeps us going daily. Every card received by a Black child, girls and boys, in our opinion, is truly sweet success! •

  • 50 years ago today, Fred Hampton was assassinated by the FBI and Chicago Police Department. That heinous act took away one of the world’s brightest lights and perhaps, the Black messiah J. Edgar Hoover had always feared. Fred Hampton could have been and should have been, President of the United States of America.
Fred Hampton was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. Since 1970 more Americans have lived in the suburbs than central cities — Hampton could relate to them, being a suburban kid from “the heartland.” Hampton was a natural organizer, a young kid who grew his suburban NAACP youth chapter from seven to 700 members. Later he would make a name for himself organizing and building coalition among organizations ranging from street gangs to leftist political groups. Hampton did it with his intellect, mixed with unusual charisma and peculiar ability to speak to people’s pain and hopes. Why wouldn’t America believe in this guy?

American politics requires coalition building and skilled organizing — no one was better than Hampton. Hampton was a natural leader, a charismatic personality who was unusually informed, especially for his age. At 21-years-old he’d already assumed statewide leadership of a political, community based organization (the Illinois Black Panther Party) and so effective at bringing together disenfranchised groups, of all races, that the FBI considered him a threat. Few individuals die having accomplished as much, inspired as many or made as much history as Hampton, who was assassinated at only 21 years of age. Why wouldn’t America want him as its first Black POTUS? [FULL ARTICLE AT WEBUYBLACK.COM/BLOG]
