  • Now I know that this may be sacrilege to some of the valve purists out there but hear me out! I have owned many valve amps and the finest of which was a Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb. It was a wonderful sounding amp but was very noisey, limited and didn't have enough clean headroom for me. I went out amp shopping and ended up in the wonderful @jgwindows1908 trying a Fender Twin they had there. I saw this Roland and thought hey let's give it a go as I'd seen @kirkfletchermusic play them in videos. From the first minute I was totally blown away by this amp! It's totally solid state and built to emulate a Fender Tweed Bassman with a few useful modern features. Going back and forth between this and the Twin, I was stunned at the tone of this thing. It is pretty much 95% tonewise compared to my personal idea of a great valve amp and it was far nicer sounding than the twin. Warm pristine clean headroom for days, wonderful digital reverb and totally silent. I sold the Deluxe Reverb and bought myself that Roland Cube Artist. They aren't cheap amps and many valve amps can be bought cheaper but boy this thing is great.

Just proves we need to listen with out ears and not our eyes. I imagine almost all of you tone purists wouldn't pick it out of a blindfold lineup. @roland_uk you have made a wonderful amp and you guys should be super proud.

@roland_uk p.s. If you guys want to send me a ultimate blues capsule I will continue to sing your praises from the rainy peaks of england.

  • New Pedal Day! Echoplex EP103. What wonderful little piece of slightly overpriced (but worth it) gear!

  • Exploring the mysteries of some vintage “tube logic”. The #Roland BC-60 is frequently mentioned as one of the best solid state guitar amps ever designed. The “Rectifex” switch is the most fascinating element of this circuit because it aims to capture the magic of tube sag. Some describe sag simply as “compression”, others a describe a more complex “envelope-like dip and swell” effect and still others insist it is more of a complex and subtle “feel”; an intimate conversation with the amp reserved only for the player. Like most things, the truth is probably a litttle bit of all of these. This BC-60 seems to exhibit more sag the harder I drive the front end similar to a #5F6 but not quite as pronounced as some 5E3’s I’ve played. The Normal channel sounds like a #JC120 when set to “Normal” and the lead channel has a #Marshall stack flavor at high gain settings. This amp seems to excel at “edge of breakup” sounds on both channels. Crunch mode 1 & 2 remind me of a #Vox and dialing back the gain on the lead channel reminds me of a #Bassman. All in all, this is a very fun, cleverly designed and entirely usable piece of guitar amp history from a time just before digital modeling amps began roaming the earth. ⚡️
Keep thinking I’m going to sell this guitar but every time I pick it up it convinces me otherwise. Feels so comfortable and easy to play. P90’s really are the best of both worlds. Now where did I put those cream speed knobs and pickup covers? #knowyourtone #tubelogic #roland #bluescube #guitarnerd #guitaramp #telecasterthinline #p90s

  • For her very first recording, I think a little Roy Orbison seems a little more than fitting!
