Amazingly enough the people at GE have come up with a new engine serie, the Gen X seen on this beautiful Qatar 747 , capable of reducing fuel burn by a whooping 15% .

Considering that it is the airline biggest cost, operators around the world are modernizing their fleet with the new GenX serie.

People often complain that airplanes create a big source of CO emissions.
Here are some numbers for them. 🤓

10 hour flight burns 150 000 litres of fuel(worst case scenario without new engines).
.
Considering an average of 500 passengers on the flight (not at the max capacity of 568).
.
Each kilometres burns 0.024 litres per person.
.
So that gives us 3 litres per 100 km per person.
For my American friends 100 mpg  per person!
.
Now please tell me how efficient is your average car?
Ohh and does it fly at 900 kmh? .

  • According to the New York Times, the MCAS software on the #Boeing737Max takes readings from one of two angle of attack sensors on the #plane that aligns itself with oncoming airflow.

If MCAS detects that the plane is pointed up at a dangerous angle, it automatically swivels the horizontal stabilizer and pushes the nose down to prevent stalling.

Two optional safety features could have kept the MCAS in check: the angle of attack indicator displays readings from both sensors, and the disagree light activates when the sensors' data do not match.

Both features were sold by Boeing as optional extras and were not included on the crashed #LionAir and #EthiopianAirlines planes.

According to the #NewYorkTimes, the safety features could have helped pilots detect any erroneous readings. This would have also allowed a manual override of the system.

The Times, citing a Boeing bulletin, says this can be done by temporarily counteracting the MCAS movement, cutting off electrical power to the stabilizers, and then cranking a wheel to manually pull them back to the correct position.

Experts told the newspaper that the two features are vital for flight safety. But because neither is mandated by the FAA, #Boeing was able to sell them as upgrades.

  • Second flight of the day is on #AA1222 @americanair down to Indy! I’ve done this late night flight numerous times but it used to be a CRJ-700 so it’s a nice upgrade to a 737-800! As well, I’ve flown on this exact plane in the same seat almost a year ago to date!! Flew ORD - BWI last April on this plane! Check my post (or click the tail number hashtag) from 4/2/18 to see if you can see any differences! Sorry no pic of the plane tonight since the windows were full of raindrops. Great quick flight with a great group of FAs! Enjoy!

  • Second flight of the day is on #AA1222 @americanair down to Indy! I’ve done this late night flight numerous times but it used to be a CRJ-700 so it’s a nice upgrade to a 737-800! As well, I’ve flown on this exact plane in the same seat almost a year ago to date!! Flew ORD - BWI last April on this plane!
