  • Perfect Saturday morning: robe, coffee, blankets, & Ruth Reichl’s memoir SAVE ME THE PLUMS. [gifted!] 📖☕️✨ I am enjoying the journey through Ruth’s tenure as Gourmet magazine’s editor in chief so so much. This book has also brought SO many of you to my DMs to chat about food lit, and I have absolutely loved the conversations and recommendations. Should I make a list of my favorite food lit books on the blog? Yay or nay in the comments! •

  • 5⭐!
This book was a treat! And I'm sure my high school English teacher would love to hear how much I enjoyed this!
ℹ️:In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.

But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.
.
.
😁: I'm between 4.5 and 5 stars - the only reason I take away the .5 is because, at some times, it was hard to follow who was who. BUT! I consider this a work of art. The author's imagination is incredible! I listened to this on audiobook, and I'm so glad I did. Some of the parts in the story I had to remind and listen to again, because the with the description, I could literally see the events unfolding, and unbelievable they were! I really enjoyed this book and plan to buy it for my bookshelf. It deserves to be read several more times, as I'm sure another read would show me things I missed or misunderstood. Read it! It's great!

(Me tomó tres días) 🙈🙈 #queleer #librosrecomendados #leoycomparto #instabooks #elplacerdeleer #leer #booklover #instabook #igbooks #megustaleer #booknerd #comoaguaparachocolate #portadasbonitas #bookstagramcolombia #lauraesquivel #secretosdecocina #mondadori

  • Thoreau writes in the first chapter of this book, "All change is a miracle to contemplate; but it is a miracle which is taking place every instant."
-
Change and growth always comes from within. We change ourselves by understanding ourselves.
-
In the conclusion, Thoreau advises us to "explore thyself." Socrates said something similar: "Know thyself." To know ourselves, to explore ourselves, is the beginning of all wisdom. It is the beginning of all change.
-
Thoreau explored himself while living in the woods, and Walden documents his awakening as a human being through the changing of the seasons. He states, "how much virtue there is in simply seeing," and the act of seeing becomes his practice. The outer landscape of nature becomes his teacher, and the pond a reflection of his own soul.
-
He writes about the pond in winter and states, "I cut my way first through a foot of snow, and then a foot of ice, and open a window under my feet, where, kneeling to drink, I look down into the quiet parlor of the fishes, pervaded by a softened light as through a window of ground glass, with its bright sanded floor the same as in summer; there a perennial waveless serenity reigns as in the amber twilight sky, corresponding to the cool and even temperament of the inhabitants. HEAVEN IS UNDER OUR FEET AS WELL AS OVER OUR HEADS."
-
When we change the way we see the world, the world we see also changes.
-
Keep reading, learning and growing.

  • So I finished Running with Lions by Julian Winters on Thursday 18th April and damn this was so good so damn good 5/5
I had to listen to some of the songs that were referenced in this book and fucking hell was there a lot of damn references to things I loved and to things I don’t watch that is popular but have no interest in 😂
I’m surprised that I could find a Character I could kinda relate to Emir Shah who is Muslim and Gay and I’m that too but I always see either one or the other but never both but the thing that differentiates between me and him is that I don’t pray and he does. 😂 I may be born in a family who follows Islam doesn’t mean I have to do everything devoted to that religion do I? I’d do anything that makes me happy and that goes for everyone else do what makes you happy follow your dreams as long as that is what you want. Don’t be swayed by your friends or family as long as it’s your choice.
God this is such a cute lgbt book even if it’s also sporty but that didn’t take my enjoyment away 😂

  • “Wistaria and sunshine . . . she remembered the advertisement. Here indeed were both in profusion. The wistaria was tumbling over itself in its excess of life, its prodigality of flowering; and where the pergola ended the sun blazed on scarlet geraniums, bushes of them, and nasturtiums in great heaps, and marigolds so brilliant that they seemed to be burning, and red and pink snapdragons, all outdoing each other in bright, fierce colour. “

Almost twenty years ago (boy does that make me feel old!) my friends Deanne, who taught in the classroom next to mine, handed me Enchanted April on a disgusting, rainy, March day. Portland in March being very much like London in March, this book swept me away and gave me sunny imaginings on soggy dark evenings. For some reason I haven’t read it since so I jumped in on the readalong and have been listening to and reading it all week. And once again, I’m feeling suitably enchanted. Although it’s a good thing today was lovely because all this talk of wisteria and sunshine was giving me serious run-away-to-Italy ideas. Thanks @booksbythecup and @rendezvous_with_reading for the nudge!

  • Review! Guesthouse for Ganesha by Judith Teitelman (@judithteitelman) is a unique novel telling the story of Esther and her struggles through life as narrated by Ganesha. 🐘
.
I was immediately drawn into wanting to learn more about Esther as she grows older from a young woman into a mother. I enjoy books that span a long time frame. I felt I could really learn about and connect with Esther. ⏳
.
Ganesha intersperses poetry throughout the book, and even though I’m not a huge fan of poetry, I didn’t find it detracted at all. I liked how lyrical the narration was in contrast to Esther’s circumstances and surroundings. 📖
.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
.
Thank you to @booksparks and @judithteitelman for sending me this copy in exchange for an honest review. Guesthouse for Ganesha comes out May 7!

Y a pesar de todo, August sonrió.

Hello belles!

  • A new video after only a week?? Is this an Easter miracle?? 😂

I've enjoyed Sarah J Maas' books for the longest time, but lately, things just don't feel the same. Is this the end, tita Sarah?

Check out the new vid and let me know what you think! Link in bio!

  • ↣ It’s not right, but it’s okay. I’d rather be alone than unhappy. ↢
.
.
I’ve been MIA for almost a month now, and it’s mostly just because I’ve been loaded at work that I had limited time to spend time on social media. Also, I haven’t been reading — this reading slump has been haunting me since February. Honestly, just bear with me a little longer until I’ve finished my projects and start reading again. .
.
.
The past few month was a Netflix month for me, I’ve been binge watching RuPaul’s drag race! Anyone here who’s a fan? Hit me up so we can fangirl together!!! .

  • Here is my #stackofhope in remembrance of the 20th Anniversary of the Columbine shooting. I was 24 at the time with two little ones. It was a very scary thing to watch happen to children by children. Please let’s work on putting an end to bullying. That can be by the hand of a parent or a peer. We teach love with love. .
.
May god bless all who are hurting today and every day.

  • Hello out there! Today I'm planning on writing a few book reviews and getting some more reading done before I go to work tonight 😊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Day 20: [royalty] #wildadventuresapr19 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all know I love books with a royalty aspect in them, and @tricialevenseller 's Daughter of the Pirate King duology took that one step further 👌 royalty and mythology? Yes please! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alosa, the main character, is fierce and strong and unapologetic, and I loved her from start to finish 💙
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, you'll love these books!
