Just a little life update. I had a death in the family, and I just want you all to know that right now my focus will be on taking care of myself and my family and posting may potentially suffer because of it. I have pictures planned out for the next week or two, but I haven't taken anything and I can't promise I will. It's been helpful for me to maintain a normal schedule, so I will try, but next week especially may be difficult. I love you all and will try and keep active, but my engagement just isn't very important to me at the moment. Thank you all for understanding!

  • 🍀🍀Happy St. Patrick’s Day!🍀🍀
.
I know “green for Patty’s Day, how original...” I just had to do it 🙈I love me some coloured books, and I was surprised I even had enough green books to make this!
.
It’s actually been a pretty chill weekend for me, I’ve been mostly reading The Priory Of The Orange Tree! I’m currently on the last story’s so under 100 pages left to go! I’m not ready to say goodbye to this world!
.
What did you get up to this weekend? Or what are you currently reading?!

  • Hello friends! It’s the start of another week and time for a reading update 🙂 Last week I finished On The Come Up and I loved it! I’m looking forward to discussing it as part of #julietslibrarybookclub this month. I’m also going to be adding questions throughout the month to the Goodreads group (but no spoilers, don’t worry!) rather than just at the end of the month. I’ve already started the conversation over there so head on over if you’ve been reading along with me ☺️ (link in bio)

  • 🌱 mini update 🌱⁣
⁣
so i haven’t been posting almost a week and that’s because i’m kind of in a reading funk right now where i don’t feel very compelled to read 😔 ⁣
⁣
i guess you could say i may have gotten book burnout after all that reading i did in january and february. i even tried moving on to other books (The Penalty by Mal Peet) but it isn’t working. whatever the case is, i’ve decided to just chill for a bit before continuing my Ender saga. ⁣
⁣
do y’all ever get book burnout? ⁣

- Lemony Snicket, The Bad Beginning 📚
📜
Gddaymate! 🎉
Since I've taken a lot of pictures the other week, I still have a few photos left for future posts! Hahah 📚💕
📜
I just want all of these acads related stuff to be done and be gone. Last night we struggled Discourse Analysing the Senatorial Debate 2019 because some of the words uttered weren't clear and we checked the news site's transcription but they changed some of the words in the part where it's confusing and we need the exact words that were used by the senatorial candidates. Ugh. End of nonsensical rant. 😂
📜
Anyway, I hope you're doing fine there, buddy! 💕

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo✨
I have wanted to read this book for a long time and as expected it was amazing! The plot and the characters were so incredible, each one with a different background developed in so many layers, I couldn’t help to fall in love with all of them!
Bardugo made such a well-developed characters and plot that you can’t even guess what’s next, it’s really unpredictable and so exciting!
It definitely had become one of my favorite books and series!

📖 summary:
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .A convict,a sharpshooter, a runaway, a spy,a heartrender and a thief.
Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

  • "And for the first time in a long time, I was not affraid", ~ (Emilia from Salt to The Sea)
.
.
.
QOTD : Apa momen yang berhasil mengalahkan rasa takutmu?
.
.
NB : Karena bacanya di Gramedia Digital, jadi aku foto bookmark berisi kutipan novel ini saja 😁

  • I mentioned in this morning’s post that I wanted to read a book that would make me cry tears of happiness. Well. I did. Thanks to @colleenhoover and her book Ugly Love. Also, SHOUT OUT TO HER for managing to break my heart within the first 38 pages of the book 😭 She mended it though, so it’s okay. (After she broke it some more, don’t be misled here.)
•
I’ve read a grand total of... THREE (I’M GOING TO GET TO ALL OF THEM SOME DAY, DON’T YOU WORRY) books written by Colleen Hoover now and this one hit me much the same way as It Ends With Us. (Although It Ends With Us still holds a place in my heart as my favourite book ever, for reasons.) It was raw and it was real and it HURT. But it was worth it. The good moments were SO worth the bad ones. (By that, I mean painful.)
•
I really loved the unique writing style that Colleen Hoover used when writing Miles’s point of view. It was written in poetry format. (So it basically didn’t HAVE a format. But it did. It’s hard to explain, you need to see it to get it 😂 I’ll post a picture eventually, so keep an eye out for that.) Point is, it made Miles’s feelings THAT much more significant. Somehow, it added a whole extra level of depth than if his story had just been written as... well, a story. Honestly, I think my favourite part about reading this book WAS reading Miles’s point of view, BECAUSE of the way it was written. It makes me curious as to what a whole book like that would be like. (*not so discreetly looks at @colleenhoover* Please take that as a hint.)
•
All this to say, I loved this book. So much. So if you like books that make you cry and that break your heart (and mend it of course), then you’ll LOVE this one. If you love overprotective brothers and emotionally damaged men (THAT BREAK YOUR DAMN HEART) and strong headed women (WHO ARE ALSO WEAK LIKE YOU WHEN IT COMES TO MEN LIKE MILES), then you’ll OBVIOUSLY love this book.

  • Today's book review is on James Ellroy's Black Dahlia, it is a fictionalization of the real life Black Dahlia case. We follow two detectives in the 1940s who typically work in the warrants division of the force. However, once they happen upon the gruesome crime scene while in search of an unrelated suspect, they request to be put on the case. While attempting to find the killer we get a glimpse at their unique partnership.
This was this months pick for our book club and will be watching the movie. Personally, I really did not like this book. The first 77 pages (and yes I counted lol) were about a boxing match between the two detectives, who then became partners. The boxing match has very little, to nothing, to do with the rest of the book. It was the biggest waste of time. Secondly, I did not like how Ellroy chose to portray Elizabeth Short (the victim) as a "loose woman" so to speak. Very great detail is placed on how many men they had to contact, her sex life, and it all makes her seam lazy, entitled, and like she was just looking for a meal ticket; which, I think is disrespectful. Lastly, I understand that historical fiction often will have slurs in it; this book had at least one slur in every paragraph, and often one in each sentence. I mean it truly was not necessary. Sometimes I wonder if white writers purposefully choose to write historical fiction just so they can fulfill their desire to say those words, and then hide behind historical accuracy. Sorry for the extra negative review today, I'm just being honest. .

  • Tell me which authors could write on a napkin and you'd buy it.
❧
Elise Kova is one of those authors foe me. She released the first in a new AIR AWAKENS spin-off series last month, VORTEX VISIONS, and I was super excited about it because I got to return to one of my favorite fantasy worlds and see a few of those characters that stuck with me well past finishing the book.
❧
The first series, AIR AWAKENS, is absolutely fantastic, I've talked about it here a number of times (and the eBook box set is like $10 for 5 books which is AMAZING). And you don't even have to read it to try VORTEX VISIONS (though it helps)

No, this is not a sponsored post. Yes, I just love the books that much.
❧
And there are more! But I'll leave it at that for now. I thought VORTEX VISIONS an appropriate choice for #MapMonday seeing as the main character, Vi, loves drawing maps!

  • 3.5⭐'s #bookreview .
The Burning is a strong and emotional book that touches on a lot of matters that are still relevant to us today. Anna's part of the narrative was executed really well but Maggie's appears like an afterthought, which isn't good since both are supposed to be of equal importance here. (Full review in blog, link in bio!)
.
Thank you so much @definitelybooks #pansing for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! This book is available at all good bookstores.

  • QOTD: long hair or short hair? *sigh* So. (Rant alert). I live in a tiny village near Cambridge, (the real, UK one, not the American one) and our main road, the main duel carriage way that takes us more or less everywhere, is being rebuilt to make it better and faster and all of this. Which is great. Except for the fact that for the 4+ years of construction we have to drive at 40mph down a road that should be 70, we have more traffic than ever to deal with, we have to deal with new road layouts causing emergency vehicles to get lost (and everyone else to get lost too). We have road closures every other night and temporary traffic lights, often on all three roads leading out of the village at once. We have so much clay on the roads they are ridiculously dangerous to drive on. They are wasting so much money that could otherwise be spent on education or community development or anything else rather than on a project that none of the villagers this will effect most asked for or wanted and that is no going to work in the end anyway because their plans for how it will work are idealistic and do not take into account that they will be used by humans and not robots and computer simulations.
AOTD: when I was little I went to preschool with a girl who could sit on her hair because it was so long. I told my mum that was how long I wanted my hair to be. Now, 16 years later, I have my wish, an it is such an inconvenience.

◆ ¡Buena semana!

  • ⭐️ Book Review ⭐️
.
A week ago my book club met to discuss NINE PERFECT STRANGERS by Liane Moriarty. This was not my typical read. I enjoyed Big Little Lies so I had high hopes for this book. It was good but fell short of great. The characters were all great but I was always waiting for something more to happen. The ending felt a bit rushed after all the drama of the last few chapters. This would make a good vacation read. •

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Goodreads description:

Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? In Liane Moriarty’s latest page-turner, nine perfect strangers are about to find out... Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer – or should she run while she still can?

It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.

  • Am I the only person who puts off reading books I know I’ll enjoy? Delayed gratification of some sort? ‘My Sister, The Serial Killer’ is a book I knew I’d love, so preordered it, even though I was/am on a ‘no buying hardbacks’ ban and it’s lived on my bookshelf for about three months since.
After (finally) finishing The Anatomy of Dreams, I picked this off my shelf dyyyyying for a good read and I wasn’t disappointed.
I gave it four stars on Goodreads (I would have given it 4.5 stars if that were possible) because I didn’t like the ending that much. Maybe I’m just obsessed with a happy ending.. morally good ending.. a nice clean wrap up and need to get over that.
My Sister, The Serial Killer really reminded my of What We Lose by Zinzi Clemmons, which I loved and now want to read again. The switching of timelines and I guess just following the thoughts of someone going through a rough time are things I really enjoy in books.
Anyway, time to pick out my next read!!! What are you currently reading?✨

  • This is the eighth book I’ve read this year, and now one of my favourites. It opens in a small Californian town, when a girl in the local college falls asleep and doesn’t wake up. A sleeping sickness spreads across the town, but what really confuses the medical experts is that the afflicted show signs that they are dreaming.
Set from multiple characters’ viewpoints, we get to see how the sickness affects friends, families, lovers, neighbours and strangers. The chapters aren’t too long, so you don’t forget certain characters which can often be a downfall with a multi perspective story.
The writing is as dreamy and hypnotic as you would expect, slow and soft as sleep, but in a wonderful way that for me, added to the experience, which immersed me completely. I’m quite visual when it comes to reading, and the imagery was so clear in my mind. There is something very beautiful about the prose, how it puts you in so many pairs of shoes, right there in the town, empathising with everyone else. At its heart, for me, it’s a book about love and loss and humanity.
I knew The Dreamers would be a favourite from the moment I started reading. So much so, I struggled to read it if I wasn’t in ‘prime reading position’! I read a lot on my commute to work, and in the evenings while my husband watches TV, but I felt that this beautifully written book had to have my full attention.
I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience, and if so with what book?

This was a fun project for me. I haven't gone through my books for a while, so this forced me to look through them, and brought up some amazing books I haven't read for a long time. The standing books are some of my favorites that I recommend for your TBR lists: Graceling, Forget Tomorrow, and Trouble By Any Other Name (this one is by a local VT writer, and is a sequel to Lady Thy Name Is Trouble). Anyways, thanks for reading💚

  • Q: What are you currently referencing?
🌻🌻
Just a couple reference books I use from time to time when I'm not feeling inspired to create my own self care blends.
🌻
Essential oils is something I use sparingly because a little goes a long ways and if you don't know what you are doing you can actually be harming yourself, or the pets around you. 🐶🐶🐶🐶
For instance DOGS can be around small doses of PEPPERMINT being diffused, but it's not good for long periods of time. 🐈🐈🐈🐈
CATS on the other hand it is seriously HARMFUL to their health and respiratory system.
👐👐👐
Also one must be careful if using oils and going to pet your animals because they absorb through their fur and skin, you will see them start to lick like crazy if you aren't mindful when you have oils on.

That's my #tip on OILS today, the more you know👆
🌻
I'm also referencing some books not shown here:
🌻
1) Life Application Study Bible by NLT- This is the first Bible that is making sense to me because it explains in the footnotes the new translation and describes how & why we should apply the themes to our lives.
🌻
2) Evolution of Goddess by Emma Mildon
While I believe in God, there are male and female energies on this Earth. The mother has long been forgotten about. The world glorified God as being man, but did he not have female qualities such as nurturing and healing as well as his masculine qualities? Dualities reside in everyone and this book shines some light on the long forgotten term Goddess.

Yesterday I was so bored I made muffins and actually burnt my finger when testing to see if they were done 😑 good job Steph! On the reading front, I’m still partway through both Wundersmith and The Near Witch, but I have made progress and I hope that today I’m able to possibly finish The Near Witch! I’m enjoying both books so far and hopefully will be able to get through more of them both soon! It feels like it’s been too long since I last finished a book, even though I finished one last week :’) .

#qotd : Do you like to eat while you read? .
.
.
.
Answer: I do but mostly I like something I can snack on, like chips or nuts or something easy. But if the book is a big one that can stay open on its own then I’m more likely to eat something that requires cutlery. .

  • Hey book babes! I’m back in the full swing of classes now that break has ended. I can’t say I’m too thrilled, but at least we’re halfway done with the semester 😅. It’s a gorgeous day out, and I want to just relax in the sunlight. Unfortunately for me I have a test Thursday I need to study for 🙃. My work is truly never done!
✨
I haven’t picked up any of the other books in this series, and I really don’t know why. I loved the book, and the covers are magnificent! I guess it just hasn’t been at the top of my list🤷🏻‍♀️. The cute wall hanging is from @owlcrate !
✨
Keep an eye out for a giveaway coming on Wednesday!!!
✨
QOTD: If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? I’d be somewhere on vacation with my family and boyfriend— maybe Disney or somewhere tropical!
