  • 🔹There’s a lot more to fitness than body composition. The picture on the right was taken after just 20 minutes of walking. Now imagine what it would look like after 30 minutes to an hour of weight training and conditioning. Brain gains are important. They can help you show up in the world as a better and stronger person and professional.

  • ✨ PROPRIOCEPTION ✨ our subconscious understanding of where the body is in space, independent from visual and other external stimuli.
.
.
➡️ Proprioception is one of our most powerful resources as active, moving beings. It helps keep us safe as we navigate through the world and allows us to perform complex movements with little conscious thought 🤸🏻‍♀️.
.
➡️ Activities that exercise both the brain and the body, like yoga, dance, sports, awareness training and certain *functional movements* help us develop proprioception at a faster rate 🏃‍♀️
.
➡️ Proprioception-building exercise also increases memory and recall, accelerates learning, and decreases rates of dementia as we age 🧠
.
Whether you’re working out to look good, feel good, perform better, or simply be healthier, incorporating functional movement and awareness training into your routine will help you get the most HOLISTIC benefit from exercise💪🏼
.
What are some ways you weave functional movement/awareness training into your workouts?
.
P.S. If you’re an anatomy/movement geek like me and want to learn more about the connection between exercise and the brain, check out my friends over at @truformat 🦂🧠🤓💪🏼 .

  • The enlightenment that comes from “lightening up” actually feels like the mind, body and spirit feeling lighter, or, for our purposes, a return to joy. Joy” doesn’t necessarily feel euphoric in the textbook definition. Webster defines joy as: the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires. For our purposes, joy is a state of being where we experience an inner knowing that here, right now, everything is okay. In that “knowing” there is peace and serenity, little or no future worrying, and little or no past regret. #wellness #recovery #stress #mindfulness #brainbodyconnection #feetfirstjourneys #stressrelief #enlightenment #lightenup

  • There are two things I have people consider strongly as a health coach.
1) Helping them to consider picking the foods that make them feel amazing
2) Who they are being when they eat
The connection between your brain and body is tremendous and when you sit in judgement and shame about a food choice it can cause stress and actually reduce the metabolic power in our gut causing whatever you were eating to have a stronger impact on your body.

Being in guilt and shame can also cause you to disconnect from your intuition and fullness signals which can lead to eating past the point of being full.
Alternative? Be kind. Enjoy your food slowly and listen to your body. Know that if you aren't restricting there is no need to over eat because you can come back later for some more.
It's a shift that can take some time but it so worth it. Life is too short to be at war with yourself.

  • Thanks @saragottfriedmd. As we age we need more of this BDNF Posted @withrepost • @saragottfriedmd Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is fertilizer for the soil of your brain. It boosts neuroplasticity, the ability of mature neurons to adapt, reorganize and recover from insults like insomnia, injury or even dementia.
Neurotrophic factors are a family of proteins (including BDNF) that contribute to the growth and survival of nerve cells. BDNF is found in the brain and spinal cord, and is active at the connections between nerve cells. Those nerve cell connections are called synapses.

All cell-to-cell communication occurs between nerve cells, in the synapses or connections between neurons. Scientists used to think that was all that synapses did. But over the past 40 years, neurobiologists have realized that synapses are actually like plastic. They can be molded and changed. This is called synaptic plasticity and means the brain continues to form new neural connections throughout life. BDNF is vital for cognitive performance in the short-term and for promoting synaptic plasticity in the long-term. BDNF helps facilitate neural repair and enhances learning and memory.

BDNF is especially important to our brain health and researchers have found that BDNF levels decline progressively with age. At the same time that BDNF levels decrease, the volume of the hippocampus (primary center for emotion and memory) also decreases. In fact, in some neurological diseases, such as Huntington’s and Alzheimer’s disease, BDNF levels are low or deficient.

What can you do to increase BDNF?
Exercise. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, boosts neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, releases endorphins and BDNF. In particular, burst or HIIT elevates BDNF. Several studies conclude that high-intensity burst exercise leads to higher BDNF in both men and women.
BDNF gets a LOT of attention in my latest book, BRAIN BODY DIET, including extensive research on how altered levels of BDNF are associated with brain fog, depression and anxiety. I include detailed advice on how to increase your BDNF levels.

  • Breathing is the most underrated human performance tool we have! 🔥🧠⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
———-⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The core is the not only the centre of physical and structural balance but also mental and emotional balance. 🔐⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
————-⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Breathing is a sub-concious action and therefore most of us barely acknowledge how we breathe however, our breathing tells us all about both our physical and mental state.🤓⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
————-⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Optimal brain and body performance is interconnected and breathing is integral to this! 🚀📈⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
————⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My Brain Body Method uses performance breathing as the central anchor - the core thrives on attention and concious stimulation (directed brain and body control) - the more you practice breathing to the core, the more focused energy and power it can release! 💪🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
———⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Directed breathing is powerful!! 🧠💪🏻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Children & Adults have been moving in sneakers for physical activity for so long we seem to have forgotten that feet do have sentient qualities. They can be used to grip the floor for strength and balance, and their different parts (toes, ball, sole, heel) can be more easily felt and used when bare. There is evidence indicating that going barefoot strengthens feet and improves body and is better. .
.

Among other things, it’s important to development of the nervous system and to optimal brain development as well.
.
.
Feet are the most nerve-rich parts of the human body, which means they contribute to the building of neurological pathways in the brain. Covering them in shoes eliminating all kinds of opportunities for children’s brains to grow new neural connections.

  • Did you know that exercise can make you smarter!
Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor - or BDNF for short - is a naturally occurring growth hormone that is responsible for neurogenesis: the creation of new neurons. Essentially, it helps our brain cells to grow and develop into fully formed and functional neurons. Higher levels of BDNF are associated with increased intelligence, mood, productivity, and memory along with decreased risks of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's & Parkinson's.

Exercise actually increases BDNF levels in the brain! Especially in the area of the hippocampus, a brain region integral to our ability to learn and remember.

So how does it do this? What is the body – brain connection?

When we exercise and burn fat, the liver produces molecules known as ketones (this is not reserved to just carb/fruit reduction diets, but any fat burning exercise). These ketones then enter our blood stream and travel to the brain. There, they act on genes to increase levels of growth factors that make us smarter. Good work exercise!
As a result, the best type of exercise for brain function is fat-burning exercise. Saying this, that is not reserved to just CARDIO! Actually, research shows that one of the best ways to burn fat is to perform a combination of weight training and intense aerobic exercise such as high-intensity interval training – the combination is the KEY.

So learn something new today, but throwing your runners on and sneaking in some fitness!

  • Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is fertilizer for the soil of your brain.

  • The Brain is powerful! 🧠
When we connect with others we build trust and form relationships through various parts of the brain. 🔐
———
Equally if we sense distrust, fear and become stressed our brain responds and so therefore so does our physical body 🤔😡
———-
The brain and the body have a reciprocal relationship! One affects the other!💡
———-
Through my years of both academic study and my own personal development journey I have always been fascinated with the mind and body - more so for me personally the mind and the brain due to my own personal story and experiences with my own mental health from childhood experiences.🙋🏼‍♀️
———-
Along my journey, I have had the experience of many years working within Premier League Football and that’s when I realised that we are so disconnected from the brain and body and yet we expect the physical body to be the vehicle to achieve elite performance.🤷‍♀️
————
Our communication, our thinking and relationships and the environment and culture we create all affect brain chemistry and physiology - it’s all connected! We are all connected! 💡
———-
Through the application of science and research we now know the power of the brain and the potential to bridge the gap between our physical and mental performance and reach our true human potential 🧠💪🏻🚀
———-
Joining the dots = power!

  • When I was 21, like many young women, I allowed myself to obsessively overthink. A wise older man told me, "mental static..that's all it is, you wouldnt sit and listen to your radio static." That stuck to me. I'm greatful for those wise words, they have helped me through my life. Our thoughts control our life. Our attitude, feelings, behavior, our health, and happiness. A negative mindset can cause so many issues in our body. If we are going through a tough time, that might not have an ending, we can allow the situation to overtake us, or change us, for the better. Change your thoughts..change your life. Change the channel.🧠#rockautoimmune#attitudeofgratitude#bitterorbetter#brainbodyconnection#choosepositivity#changeyourthoughtschangeyourlife#eckharttolle

  • When the bones in our s p i n e s are misaligned also known as a subluxation, we may be experiencing a variety of problems we never would’ve thought would have to do with our backs. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
A misalignment in your spine might result in headaches, pain or numbness, dizziness, fatigue, reduced general health and more. —
Correcting these subluxations through #chiropractic adjustments is one of the best ways to eliminate these problems for good! 🌀

  • Hi, I’m Bea, and teaching people how they work is next level exciting to me 😆. ⠀
⠀
The moments that keep the fire in my belly burning are when someone’s eyes twinkle with their own ‘Ah Ha!’ moment. When they get their body in a way they hadn’t perceived before, and their speech shifts from “Why can’t I do that?” to “Ahh that’s how I do that!”. ⠀
⠀
The movement is the medium, but the understanding is where the real change happens 🙂 💗. What ignites the fire in your belly?

  • The 🧠 brain and body are constantly communicating with each other through the spinal cord and nerves. ⠀
⠀
Misalignments in the spine can interfere with the communication to our organs and irritate many systems in the body including digestion. ⠀
⠀
The GI tract is especially sensitive to tonal imbalances and when we realign the spine we optimize function & restore balanced tone to the entire body!! 🌀⭐️⠀

  • HOW CHIRO CAN HELP ALLERGIES ——————————————————————— The nerves from your neck will go to your eyes, ears, nose, etc. If there is excess pressure on the nerves from spinal misalignments it can cause decrease nerve signaling. Therefore, your brain will take longer to react to anything going on with your ears, eyes, and/or nose. Relieving the pressure from where the nerve starts will increase the conductivity of the nerve. It can then signal between the nose and brain faster and more efficiently to start the natural process of increasing the immune system to fight the allergies.

  • My Tranformational Breath coach said these words in our class the other night. Emotion literally means “moving energy out.” .
________
The more exploring I do in this journey, the stronger my belief becomes that healing is a mind AND body process. Perhaps most important— of the body.
_______
I study trauma, and am fascinated by how intuitive the body is in response to threat. Even threats that may seem trivial to you cognitively, can leave a lasting imprint in your body on a cellular level.
_______
From what I am learning, research has provided decades of reports that show just how imbalanced our medical system is when providing treatment to the mentally ill or those suffering from chronic pain and other disorders. It is my understanding that if we only address the mind or settle with labeling + treating people based on their symptoms alone, we will never fully heal.
________
Psychoneuroimmunology is the study of psychological processes and the nervous + immune systems. PNI helps to embody the important piece too many doctors overlook— the pathways between the mind AND body. PNI addresses the entire human experience, and allows for why illness is rooted in stress, trauma and unhealed wounds stored in the body.
________
Emotion is not just “crying” or “overreacting.” It is also not a cognitive process, hence why so many often feel stuck. It is a physical process that helps aid the body in moving energy out. In a world where we are told happy is the goal, it’s no wonder we have a hard time tuning in, expressing, and allowing a variety of emotions to exit the body.
________
If our body can store this energy that makes + keeps us sick, then our body can also rid itself of it.
________
