  • This morning, we walked into the Grand Canyon. Not far. 1.5 miles on Bright Angel Trail, one of the parks best maintained and most accessible canyon trails.
.
Last night, when we watched the sunset along the south rim, we were bowled over by the vastness. The canyon is light as much as it’s rock, and to see that much vast, endless emptiness was arresting and quieting.
.
To be in the canyon, though, felt like we were part of the canyon. It became intimate and personal, to walk and sweat and stumble and switch back, to occupy space inside of it. You’re up close with all the details that are flattened out and uniform on the rim, and you see all the wild, vibrant life, be part of its vitality. I wanted to stop at every flower growing in dust and rocks, and ask them how they do it.
.
We experienced a long moment of the reverential stillness at the midway point in our hike. When we sat at Shoshone Point last night, we both said it was the stillness, the profound absence of everything except the rocks and the light and birds. Crouched on the edge of another cascade of empty light, the canyon was both less holy and more infinite. We both gaped, and held our breath, trying, for a second longer, to melt into that awesome stillness.

  • How will you ever know what you are capable of unless you move out of your comfort zone

I love my comfort zone and I do not 🙅🏼‍♀️ like leaving it. Thoughts of leaving the safety of my comfort zone brings up all sorts of anxiety and what ifs.

What if I fail?
What if I’m judged?
What if I give up?
What if I waste my time?
What if?

I let my fears and what ifs get in my way more times than not. I didn’t pursue a relationship, or a job or a dream because I felt like I couldn’t do it

The last couple of years I, very slowly, starting stepping outside my safe zone. I left the toxic relationship/friendships, I put myself out there, I said yes to an opportunity to build my own business. While this was all scary and I still have doubt, I don’t regret saying yes to these decisions. I ask why did I take so long to finally say yes!

So I ask you this, what would happen if you said yes? Yes to the new, yes to the uncertainty, yes to the opportunity. What would happen?

To get close to the Colorado River, who carved the Grand Canyon, you have to be prepared to gain some altitude on the way back or opt for one of the famous rafting trips, that sell out months in advance. On the way to Plateau Point the Oasis of the Indian Garden makes for a good break before the ascent back to the Rim.
