  • I’d like to introduce you to Wendy - my right hand woman, trusty friend & head packer.
Having people around that I trust is so important to me & I guess she trusted me when I asked her to model my ladies tees - she hates having her photo taken! 🙈
.
Oh & in case you missed yesterday’s story update - I made a monumental mistake when I costed these tees 🙊 the new price is £49.95 - they are £42.50 until Tuesday AND @dogstival this weekend if you are popping along. .

  • #wellbeing self reliance is I believe key as is a decent mobile phone! Love being able to solve problems with this #galaxys10plus in hand. Ace sucker #BritshMade #numaticinternational #Henry is a trusty ktra reliable man servant but is programmed to take a break if you over burden him in one long constant use. Don't panic if he goes off without any warning. Take more than that to beat this bad boy and anyway spares are easy to get online and not expensive. Thanks to Google & You Tube nothing to repair just wait 12 hours as I just have & off we go again. Thermal cut off relaxed & self reset. ( Cuts in to prevent t damage from over heating )

  • You might think that because we use finest cotton fibre then it’s pretty easy to spin a wonderful yarn. Well yes, obviously it helps that we use only the good stuff, but actually the most crucial thing you need to spin a good yarn is top notch sliver and that takes a bit of doing.  Anybody can botch up a bale of beautiful cotton, but
Tower Mill’s cotton experts have finely tuned our state of the art cotton preparation systems to make sure we create the perfect cotton sliver to spin.
Because as the saying goes, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear - you need silk. Preferably really good silk. We’ve embellished that a bit to labour a point, but you know what we mean.

  • It’s well documented that our Supima cotton yarns are brilliant for their strength, lustre and ultra fineness and all of this is down to the cotton fibres. Most cotton fibres are less than an inch long, but the fibres in Supima average 1.5 inches - and that’s what makes them Extra Long Staple. You might not think this makes much of a difference to the cotton yarns but it really does. Longer fibres are finer, softer and much, much stronger. Now it’s beginning to sound a little bit like a toilet roll advert, so we’ll just sum up with longer fibres are better. OK?

  • #MarchMeetTheMaker 11 & 13.
Day 11 Reducing Waste - I like to think I'm quite into recycling and caring about the environment. I'm also a bit of a hoarder at times who rarely throws things away. With my jewellery making, I use every part of a sheet of acrylic I can. Even if I cut something wrong, if it's big enough to re use and cut the tiny parts of my designs from it, I will. I also re use packaging such as bubble wrap.

Day 12 was hands at work and I tried to take a video of me assembling but ah I just couldn't get a good one and my hands just kept getting in the way of the piece!

Day 13 Photography - I take all my photos myself including the ones of me wearing the pieces. Currently it's just with my Google Nexus phone. I don't have fancy equipment and haven't been taught photography though I think it's more in the photographers eye and the lighting rather than something that can be taught. I take most of my photos in my conservatory as it's the brightest room in the house.

  • 💎Where it all began...💎 ⠀
⠀
It all began at 15 years old when I got a job working for one of my parents friends in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. I worked there throughout my A levels and GCSE's until it was time to head to university. ⠀
⠀
I then remained in the jewellery quarter with another bespoke handmade jewellers and learnt another set of skills, as well as sales and how to design from scratch with a client. Whilst at the Birmingham Jewellery School I also took on apprenticeship's teaching me bench skills and worked in a pub to enable me to learn as much as I could about the industry but still have money for a glass of vino and petrol for the car. This focused time learning as much as I could about this fascinating industry was invaluable and something I really believe has served me well over the last 18 years. ⠀
⠀
Once I finished university it was time to spread my wings so off the London I went but it wasn't somewhere I enjoyed living, although I loved my job there, so I swiftly retreated back to Birmingham and began working in a side of the business I hadn't worked in before, which was designing behind the scenes for the trade rather than one to one with customers that I was used to. I struggled a little with this too, which made me realise I needed to be customer facing and designing - doing all the things I loved. So I moved to Cheltenham, and I havent left yet! ⠀
⠀
When the opportunity arose for me to leave my much loved job and set up Hannah Kimber Jewellery it was the biggest leap I had ever taken, but I have no regrets - if you dont try you will never know and I am now running my own bespoke jewellery company. Moral of the strory - is it hard - yes - does it take years of hard work and dedication - absolutely - is it worth it - if work does'nt seem like work then I think I did something right!⠀
