🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹
🇬🇧 The Basilica of St Mark is the main church of the city of Venice, built to honor the relics of St. Mark the Evangelist. The relics were stolen from #Alexandria of #Egypt in 828 AD by two #Venetian merchants thanks to a stratagem: hidden in a basket of vegetables and pork. The original church was progressively enriched with columns, friezes, marbles, sculptures, and gold brought to Venice on merchant ships coming from the east. The loot of the sack of #Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade (1204), in particular, enriched the treasure of the basilica, which was thus completed in the 13th century together with the splendid golden mosaics decoration. 🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 ⠀ 🏛Aiutaci a far conoscere il nostro Patrimonio🏛

❤️ AL-WASI- the All-Embracing ❤️ 'To God belong the east and the west. Wherever you turn, there is the face of God. Witness, God is All-Embracing, All-Knowing.' 2:115

Today I was reminded of the way in which Islamic architecture has embraced different elements of other architectural traditions such as Byzantine as Islam spread and found its home in many different nations with many different aesthetic traditions. This is extremely apparent in Turkey (think all of the Mosques that drew inspiration from the Hagia Sophia, originally a Greek Orthodox church and later an Ottoman mosque) but also further afield in places like Syria and Palestine. Byzantine architecture was particularly influential during the Umayyad Caliphate (661-790) and is visible in the Dome of the Rock (constructed in 691). It's beautiful finding all of these numerous examples of 'local Islam' and is a wonderful demonstration of the diversity of the peoples who are of the Muslim faith.

  • Τί ζητάμε από τον πνευματικό μας;
Να παραδεχτεί ότι έχει σφάλλει ο αδελφός μας;
Κι αν έχει σφάλλει ο άλλος, αυτό μας δικαιώνει ενώπιον του Θεού;
Το να αποδείξουμε ότι έσφαλλε ο άλλος, μας ωφελεί πνευματικά;

"Hata yapmak
Fırsatını Adem’e veren sendin
Bilmedim onun talihinden ne kadar düştü bana
Gençtim ve ben neden hata payı yok diyordum hayatımda
Gergin bedenim toprağa binlerce fışkını saplar idi
Haykırınca çeviklik katardım gökyüzüne
Bir düşü düşlere dalmaksızın kavrayarak
Bulutu kapsayarak açmadan buluta içtekini
Tanıdım Ademoğlu kimin nesiymiş
Ter döküp soru sormak nereye sürüklermiş kişiyi.

Çeşme var, kurnası murdar
Yazgım kendi avcumda seyretmek kırgın aksimi."

  • First day in Istanbul. Visited three museums including the Hagia Sophia Museum. My favorite part was the mosaic of empress Zoe but that part is under reconstruction so I couldn't take a good picture. Her story is pretty cool. Also, the cats living in this museum are super cute. I wonder what it would have looked like if all the original Byzantine mosaics would still be there #hagiasophia #istanbul #zoe #byzantine

  • Euro Road Trip: I received some backlash from the prior post highlighting the poverty and squalor that plagues certain parts of Paris, but the focal point of my account is not to disseminate shiny smiles and peachy cheeks cut out and neatly displayed juxtaposed to stunning landmarks. Rather, I travel to different cities across the globe and accentuate the realities, irrespective of whether they cast the city in a positive or negative light. My interest is not to reinforce the beauty of a city, but rather dig into the bedrocks as excavate the realities, which define your culture in its own unique and idiosyncratic ways. Now that I addressed that matter, we are ready to continue our exploration. So I left off discussing the story of Charles De Gaul. Even at a young age, he was engulfed with a passion for curiosity, adventure and, to an extent, rebellion. While he was not the most intellectual among is copious pool of siblings, which tallied to 5, he was the most daring and inspiring. He convinced them with sheer marketable talent to recite their names backward and other petty but fascinating challenges and riddles. He an oratory genius and coupled with an insatiable hunger for prestige and recognition, he embarked on a life’s journey to be consequential and disruptive if the moment arises. So how does a person achieve notability in the late 19th century and early 20th century? In the age of military aggression and european territorial expansion, the answer lies in military service of course.

  • "Haris Alexiou" will be the fourth single to be released from Breathe Of My Leaves' 2nd album Chimera and will be out on April 5th everywhere.

The single will be released as a nine-track EP containing remixes of the single plus two bonus tracks, and follows up single/EP's "Dancing With My Hallucinations," "Glowing Pacific," and "Love You Lately" feat. Jordan Gant. "Haris Alexiou" has been described as "rapturously ethnotronic discoid," "bombastically fun," and "experimental," and is easily one of the favourites from the current album.
Remixers on this EP include Canada's slick and glimmering electropop duo @hollowlovemusic who are currently on fire across all electronic scenes worldwide (including beautiful new vocals by Ryan Slemko); Vancouver's upscale and high-style-renowned DJ George V; as well as diverse mixes by Breathe Of My Leaves. A new bonus track called "Dance Of Zolango" is also included plus a remix of it.

On April 1st (no, this isn't an April Fool's joke), not one, but two of the new radio-length mixes of "Haris Alexiou" will be receiving an exclusive "first-play" on global electronic stalwart radio station @artefaktor_radio’s Sneak Peek new music preview program at 8PM UK time - 12PM Pacific/3PM Eastern, etc (you can listen online all over the world by going to www.artefaktorradio.com and clicking on "Listen"). Haris Alexiou is the legendary voice of Greece and she has been releasing hit after hit to worldwide acclaim since the early 1970's. Her music has been in my life since I was born, thanks to my parents, often bringing tears of rapture to our family's eyes via poetic, patriotic lyrics, passionate Byzantine-style vocal-acrobatic delivery, and an award-winning voice that has been called the greatest on Earth. This fun, experimental, and explosive song is a tribute of incredible love to this living legend.

  • [] THROWBACK [] I'm throwing it back to one of my first collections of jewellery - bridal.

I distinctly remember finding #bridaljewellery boring back then 'too samey, all #pearls and precious metals' I would think to myself and so I stopped making it.
Looking back over the pieces I made has rekindled a little love for it and I do really love creating chainmaille - #byzantine has always been my favorite.
