  • This baby camel (also called a calf) came into the hospital for failure of passive transfer. I have never met a baby camel before, so it was a really unique experience.
•
Failure of passive transfer is a common problem in large animal species who are born immunologically naïve. Therefore, they need good quality colostrum from the time they are born to ensure survival. Colostrum is the first milk a mother produces, filled with antibodies that babies need to develop a healthy immune system. Calves might not get colostrum for many reasons – it could be related to the calf itself or the mother. Thankfully, there are ways to treat failure of passive transfer through supplementation and medicine to make certain that this calf has a great start in life.
•
Truthfully, it was a bit intimidating looking into this camel’s eyes and watch it stand up, albeit shakily, right in front of me. Even this young, calves are very tall. The owners wanted him to imprint on humans, and so they gave the students permission to hang out with him and take pictures.

Although I don’t want to specialize in large animals, I do love working with them and learning about these amazing animals!

Drop a 🐫🐪 if you love camels!

Bedouin are the nomadic desert-dwellers of this region, who have been traversing the golden sand dunes of #Dubai and surviving in the #desert for centuries. As the oldest inhabitants of this region, these legends of Arabia are known for their resourcefulness and hospitality. Rewind back over 100 years ago pre-1920’s before there were cars or any modern amenities in the desert and revel in an authentic experience that takes you on a cultural and historical #adventure into a bygone era and gives you the chance to live a day in the life of a Bedouin in the Dubai desert

It's been a long time that we did not publish photos of the trip. The last was in Egypt enjoying our first and last beer so far this trip. Here in Africa, times are others that many of us are used to. Everything has its time, it is the time of the visa for the next country, the time of the sun that it is not possible to pedal from the heat it makes, the time of the moon that is good to use it not to sleep but to pedal as it is the moment where it is coolest or the time of Ramadam where you do not find food during the day, but only after the sun has fallen.
A week ago, a little before crossing the border between Egypt and Sudan we met 2 Germans who were going in the same direction as us, so we decided to get together and wait together for the times of Africa! p.d: the photos are of the route between Wadi Halfa and Dongola (Sudan)

  • Wandering around Pushkar✨
.
.
This town is super empty due to it being off-season & there doesn’t seem to be much to do other than visit a few temples. But we did manage to get screamed at by a local for who-knows-what, saw tons of camels, and got blessed by a priest. Oh! & it hailed like crazy!! 🤣🤣

  • Did you know Camel milk does not curdle? Camel milk is three times higher in vitamin C than cow's milk! How cool huh? Would you try Camel milk?
