The first dietary guidelines in the US were established in 1977 based on scientific consensus. .
They advised the public to reduce saturated fats and meat in their diets and to increase healthy whole grains. The goal of the guidelines was to make us healthier and to prevent heart disease. .
The public and food companies complied and consequently the consumption of red meat, butter and lard has plummeted and the consumption of grains and other carbohydrate rich foods has dramatically increased in the past 50 years. .
Since then the guidelines have been re-issued several times and each time they moved more towards a plant based and a meat deprived diet based on an ever greater scientific consensus that meat was bad. .
At the same time obesity and diabetes rates have increased dramatically, see screenshots. One of the major complications of diabetes is heart disease. Although deaths from heart disease have dropped in the past years, it’s clear that this isn’t due to dietary changes since obesity has increased at the same time. .
It appears that the guidelines seem to have achieved exactly the opposite of what they were aiming for:  they made us sicker instead of healthier.

As a result and thanks to the "scientific consensus" hundreds of thousands of patients each year in the US alone die of preventable health problems.
.
So if you as a patient find out that your doctor does not follow the “scientific consensus”, then thank God that she doesn’t. Because that means that your risk of being harmed by her advice is dramatically lower.
.
And if you’re a practitioner who’s been accused of giving dietary advice which is not in line with the scientific consensus, then the only reasonable response to that should be “Thank God I’m not” since that means that the probability that you’re harming your patients is considerably lower.

That’s my message to Chris Kresser after his debate with James Wilks on Joe Rogan.

And also: Chris, eat some more fatty meat. It’ll give you the brain power and stamina to go against such crazy fanatics.

Lean animal protein is a great source of protein and carries it own host of health benefits. But again, a lot of meat (specifically red meat) can be incredibly calorie dense.⁣

Above all, control your calories and control your bodyweight. In an ideal world, you’d eat like a vegan with the addition of lean animal protein (it can be hard to meet protein requirements while vegan) 🤗.⁣

  • Just finished making my roast beef for the week.🥩 I find that utilizing roast meat is cost effective if you don’t have a large budget since it’s relatively cheap, even grass-fed. I usually will use it as a side dish or just eat it cold out of the fridge. Roast meat is usually best thin sliced if you are baking it. You can also make a pot roast in a crock pot filled with broth if you prefer. The steps to making perfect mid rare roast beef are:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and season all sides of the roast with seasoning of preference (I just use salt)

2. Place the roast on small rack placed on top of a baking sheet and place it in the oven.

3. Let the it’s cook for 20 minutes at 450 degrees, reducing heat to 350 at the 20 minute mark.

4. Allow to cook for another 45 minutes, removing from oven to cool.

5. Thinly slice and serve/store in fridge. That’s all there is to it. :) I may post more recipes in time even though this isn’t really a recipe and more just a method of cooking. I hope inspires you all to make some roast beef! P.S. If you have a meat slicer, you can slice it up like deli meat and have homemade cold cuts if you prefer.

You can also make a pot roast in a crock pot filled with broth if you prefer. The steps to making perfect mid rare roast beef are:

    1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees and season all sides of the roast with seasoning of preference (I just use salt)

    2. Place the roast on small rack placed on top of a baking sheet and place it in the oven.

    3. Let the it’s cook for 20 minutes at 450 degrees, reducing heat to 350 at the 20 minute mark.

    4. Allow to cook for another 45 minutes, removing from oven to cool.

    5. Thinly slice and serve/store in fridge. That’s all there is to it. :) I may post more recipes in time even though this isn’t really a recipe and more just a method of cooking. I hope inspires you all to make some roast beef! P.S. If you have a meat slicer, you can slice it up like deli meat and have homemade cold cuts if you prefer.
