About nine years ago, I bought my first photography book, one of those Snapshots to Great Shots series that was specific to my first dSLR camera. At that point, I was as green as it came (literally, the green Auto button was my only friend). The first chapter of the book talked about the famed “golden hour” of photography. I remember having such a Joey from Friends moment thinking, “OMG, they have a term for this?!!” Somehow, I naively thought I was the only person that enjoyed the display of warm rich colors that took place everyday for a brief period before day or night took over. I would just call it “the time when it’s super shiny and everything is awesome.” Fast forward nine years and I still get that feeling of awe and appreciation for it. But, I suppose “golden hour” has a better ring to it.
