  • In our quest to become true PNW locals we are always looking for new things to do. Last weekend we took the RV over to Westport and James caught his first lingcod! Lingcod are endemic to the west coast of North America but particularly abundant off the coast of Washington and British Columbia. They are aggressive predators that will eat almost any other fish. You don't actually hook them when you catch them - they use their long, sharp teeth to hang onto the bait as you reel them aboard 😲! Can't wait to cook this one up 😊

  • It’s officially that time again...my very favorite time of the year. Who else can relate? October’s embrace is in full swing and one of my favorite places to explore during my favorite month is Washington’s Eastern Cascade Foothills. This image is from a few years ago when the colors were at their peak near the Leavenworth area. Out of the various places around the foothills, this particular area to me defines October's lovely, cool, vibrant embrace the best.🍁 So far, this Autumn is shaping up to be perhaps the busiest in terms of exploring and photography. Looking forward to visiting my folks on the other side of the country soon and hopefully seeing a very different sort of colorful beauty there. Hope those who are able are enjoying the fall splendor and getting out while you can🍂🧡🎃

  • Few places in this world are more dangerous than home. Fear not, therefore, to try the mountain passes. They will kill care, save you from deadly apathy, set you free, and call forth every faculty into vigorous, enthusiastic action.

  • I feel lucky to have nabbed this shot before this amazing little tree was destroyed during a strong wind storm. Unfortunately a much larger tree was blown down right on top of the little fella. The park has done a great job cleaning up since and has replaced it with a new maple, but it just isn’t the same. I also have to say this picture doesn’t fully capture the feeling of being in the garden that morning. Running around with fog, vibrant red, yellow and orange leaves, amazing trees around every corner, light rays beaming through and perfect little reflections everywhere. Definitely not a morning I will forget.

Feisol Tournament CT-3442 Rapid Tripod
ISO400, 16mm, f/11, .6s (1/13s and 1/8s with different polarizations for reflection and water)

  • Ah larches, the primary reason we headed to the North Cascades - and they sure put on a show! As an east coast girl I'm definitely used to the rainbow of colors from the maple trees, but learning about these larches was something special. Many of them could be hundreds of years old and only grow in a narrow elevation in the alpine environment.

Did you know that larches are the only conifer trees that turn yellow and lose their leaves? Growing up the only term I knew was "Evergreen"... mind = blown! 🤯

  • Road to Rainier

We came around a corner from a socked in sunrise, saw this view, and absolutely had to stop! It was probably the best view of the mountain I've had in two visits to the park!

  • Just sent in my official request letter and application to move into this Fire Lookout in MRNP, couldn’t be more excited. The rangers have responded the past 15 times I’ve sent in applications, telling me, “You can’t and will never be able to live here. We can’t make exceptions just because you keep asking, please stop asking” haha what a bunch of jokers
